Topical Review: Contact Lens Eye Health and Safety Considerations in Government Policy Development
SIGNIFICANCE As new federal or state policies are introduced in the United States to shape the evolving contact lens market, it has never been more important to amplify the importance of patient health and safety during contact lens wear and promote the value of the eye care professional–patient relationship. Case Report: Improved Choroidal Circulation in a Patient with Unilateral Acute Idiopathic Maculopathy
CONCLUSIONS The current patient showed a gradual recovery of choroidal circulation and outer retinal layer morphology 1 year after the onset of unilateral acute idiopathic maculopathy. Optical coherence tomography angiography findings indicated that the primary cause of unilateral acute idiopathic maculopathy was impaired choroidal circulation, and choroidal vessels improved morphologically over the disease course. Case Series: Presumed Choroidal Melanoma Diagnosis Expedited by Documented Growth on Serial Optical Coherence Tomography
CONCLUSIONS Horizontal growth of choroidal tumors can be established using sequential OCT scans in the absence of color fundus photography. Access to prior imaging can expedite the diagnosis of choroidal melanoma, potentially allowing patients to be treated earlier. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

Case Report: Downbeat Nystagmus Due to Epidural Puncture during Labor with Undiagnosed Arnold-Chiari Malformation
CONCLUSIONS This case report highlights an atypical presentation of downbeat nystagmus secondary to an accidental dural puncture in a pregnant patient with undiagnosed ACM1. Clinicians should consider the importance of considering ocular complications that can occur in pregnant patients with ACM1. Questioning of women who have recently given birth about epidural anesthesia should be considered with an acute presentation of downbeat nystagmus. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

Technical Report: Automatic Measurement of Corneal Nerve Fiber Area Using Versatile Software
CONCLUSIONS The software used in this study automatically measures the corneal nerve fiber area with accuracy similar to that of manual measurement by an experienced ophthalmologist. This software has potential for use in quantifying the areas of various corneal structures. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

The Developmental Eye Movement Test Does Not Detect Oculomotor Problems: Evidence from Children with Nystagmus
CONCLUSIONS The DEM test ratio is not sensitive to fixation and saccade abnormalities associated with nystagmus, indicating that it does not have general construct validity to detect true eye movement disorders. Although not suitable for the evaluation of oculomotor disorders, the subtests do have clinical relevance in the diagnosis of cerebral visual impairment. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

Comparison of Factors Associated with Myopia among Middle School Students in Urban and Rural Regions of Anhui, China
This study assessed the modifiable factors associated with myopia and compared them between rural and urban regions. METHODS Data were collected from December 2020 to March 2021. A multistage stratified cluster sampling method was used to select 6154 middle school students. All children underwent an eye examination, including visual acuity and cycloplegic refraction. Data on near work, sleep, and outdoor activities were collected in questionnaires. RESULTS The myopia prevalence values in urban and rural regions were 68.1 and 63.7%, respectively (χ2 = 15.57, P (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

Relationships among Clinical Factors and Patient-reported Outcome Measures in Adults with Convergence Insufficiency
CONCLUSIONS In exploratory analyses, we found positive correlations between CISS symptom scores and reading function quality-of-life scores. The absence of correlations between symptoms and individual clinical measures is consistent with clinical experience that, in convergence insufficiency, symptoms and clinical findings can be discordant. The Effects of Visual Field Loss from Stroke on Performance in a Driving Simulator
CONCLUSIONS In this large cohort, driver safety could not be predicted from the type of homonymous visual field loss. Even individuals with severe visual field loss might be safe drivers. Therefore, it seems reasonable to provide an opportunity for individualized assessments of practical fitness to drive in circumstances of licensing issues. This study demonstrates the potential of using a standardized driving simulator test for such assessments of fitness to drive. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

Case Report: Acute Retinal Necrosis after a Cervical Epidural Steroid Injection
CONCLUSIONS The progressive nature of acute retinal necrosis is usually debilitating to vision, even when managed properly. Because prognosis is often poor, it is important to make proper diagnoses combined with a complete review of the patient's medical history and immune status to prevent further vision loss. Case Report: Treatment of Severe Neuroretinitis and other Sequelae Associated with Cat Scratch Disease
CONCLUSIONS Bartonella neuroretinitis associated with pre-retinal hemorrhage, vitritis, and subretinal hemorrhage can be successfully treated with a combination of systemic medications and topical drops. Monotherapy with doxycycline is effective and well tolerated. Rifampin can cause rapid metabolization and reduction in plasma levels of both prednisone and doxycycline and should be avoided with combined therapy. Oral prednisone and topical difluprednate are recommended to quell initial inflammation during the first few weeks. The anti-inflammatory effects of doxycycline and topical ketorolac used for longer duration m...
