Effect of Vergence Facility Testing on Horizontal Fusional Reserves
This study aimed to compare the effect of vergence adaptation after different vergence facility (VF) testing methods on following horizontal fusional reserve measurement at near. METHODS This cross-sectional study was performed on 50 healthy subjects with a mean ± standard deviation age of 21.18 ± 1.41 years. The baseline horizontal fusional reserves were measured using base-in (BI) and base-out (BO) prisms (∆) at near. Then, VF was measured using 3∆BI/12∆BI flip prism at near, and then the measurement of fusional reserves was repeated. In the next step, fusional reserves were measured after VF testing using...

Stereothresholds during Voluntary Head Movement and Disconjugate Image Motion
CONCLUSIONS Stereothresholds are elevated modestly during active head movements. The results obtained with imposed disjunctive image motion are consistent with a previously proposal that stereothresholds vary according to the unsigned, time-averaged deviation of the stereotarget from the plane of the horopter. The Scope of Optometry Practice in Jordan
CONCLUSIONS Optometry professionals in Jordan can provide more services if the scope of practice is expanded to match their knowledge and skills. Moreover, their nomenclature as refractionists does not represent the range of services they provide that extend beyond refraction. The concern is that optometric services are not reachable by many Jordanian populations because of the inequality of the distribution of professionals. Thus, advocacy to expand the scope of practice in Jordan is recommended. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

Opioid Prescribing Patterns of Optometrists in the Medicare Part D Database
CONCLUSIONS Most optometrists do not prescribe opioids, and the vast majority of those who do write few opioid prescriptions. The total number of optometrists prescribing opioids and the total number of opioid prescriptions declined from 2013 to 2017. Further investigation into the opioid prescribing practices by optometrists will help better understand specific pain needs, as opioid prescribing patterns may differ depending on patient population. Development of Visual Acuity in Children: Assessing the Contributions of Cognition and Age in LEA Chart Acuity Readings
CONCLUSIONS These results suggest that age alone is not the optimal determinant for the development of visual acuity in typical school-aged children, as cognition was also found to be an important predictor. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

Feasibility of Implementing Recommendations to Reduce Fall Risk in Older People: A Delphi Study
CONCLUSIONS The Delphi panel supported the feasibility of most of the recommendations in optometric practice and provided suggestions to improve their implementation. Further research is needed to evaluate the implementation and benefits of these recommendations, designed to make optometric practice more effective in preventing patient falls. Veterans with Traumatic Brain Injury–related Ocular Injury and Vision Dysfunction: Recommendations for Rehabilitation
CONCLUSIONS Findings delineate service delivery models available to veterans with TBI-related vision impairment. The challenge these data address is the lack of clear paths from diagnosis of TBI to identification of vision dysfunction deficits to specialized vision rehabilitation, and finally to community reintegration and community based-vision rehabilitation. Veterans with Traumatic Brain Injury–related Ocular Injury and Vision Dysfunction: Vision Rehabilitation Utilization
CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that the need for vision rehabilitation may extend as long as 2 years after TBI. Access to vision rehabilitation is complicated by the paucity of available neuro-optometric services. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

Case Series: Small Full-thickness Macular Hole Treated with Topical Dorzolamide and Bevacizumab Intravitreal Injections
CONCLUSIONS The combination of topical dorzolamide and bevacizumab intravitreal injection is a reasonable consideration for small macular holes with vascular components before considering surgery. Both cases had early macular closure in less than 3 months. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

Case Report: Anisometropic Astigmatism Secondary to Unilateral Coronal Synostosis
CONCLUSIONS Patients who present to the clinic with craniosynostosis should undergo cycloplegic examinations, including retinoscopy, early in their care with the knowledge that these patients can require interventions such as glasses and amblyopia treatment. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

The Effect of Intravitreal Ocriplasmin on Hue Discrimination
CONCLUSIONS Ocriplasmin may alter hue discrimination, but larger studies are required to provide sufficient power to detect or exclude a statistically significant effect. Longer follow-up is needed to determine the duration of any effect. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

Differential Antimicrobial Efficacy of Multipurpose Solutions against Acanthamoeba Trophozoites
CONCLUSIONS Many of the popular MPS biocides maintain little or no antimicrobial activity against Acanthamoeba trophozoites, and the number of biocides in an MPS does not necessarily indicate its antimicrobial activity. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)
