Confirmation on the occurrence of Cymothoa indica , and first record of Norileca indica, with a note on new host records of Nerocila arres , and Nerocila depressa (Isopoda: Cymothoidae) from Odisha coast, India
AbstractThe parasitic isopodCymothoa indica Schi öedte and Meinert, 1884 was recorded from the buccal cavity of the hostGlossogobius giuris (Hamilton, 1822) collected from Chilka Lake, Odisha in 1924, but its identification was doubtful as mentioned by the author in his book on “Fauna of Chilika Lake: Tanaidacea and Isopoda”. The present report of parasitic isopod C. indica from the buccal cavity of the hostSphyraena obtusata Cuvier, 1833 collected from the water of Bay of Bengal, Gopalpur-on-Sea confirms its occurrence along the Odisha coast. The record of the isopod parasiteNorileca indica (H. Milne  Edwards, 184...

First report of Lophomonas spp. in German cockroaches ( Blattella germanica ) trapped in hospitals, northern Iran
AbstractCockroaches are considered to be important reservoirs for protozoan and helminth parasites, particularly an emergingLophomonas spp., protozoan parasite. German cockroaches,Blattella germanica (B. germanica), are domestic pest distributed worldwide. However, little information is available regarding the burden ofLophomonas spp. infestation among domestic cockroach population worldwide. The present study investigated parasitic agents, emphasizingLophomonas spp. infestation amongB. germanica in northern Iran. During spring and summer 2018, a total of 496 adultsB. germanica (265 males and 231 females) were trapped by ha...

Prevalence of Filariasis in camels ( Camelus dromedarius ) in Upper Egypt with special reference to treatment
AbstractThe study aimed to detect the prevalence of camel filariasis in Upper Egypt, the effect of age, sex, season, locality and periodicity of sampling and treatment of infested cases and also determines the diagnostic technique for detection of the parasite. The study carried out on a total number of 350 camels (Camelus dromedarius) belonged to different Governorates in Upper Egypt including Assuit, Sohag, Asswan and El-wady El-gaded, by using the following methods for diagnosis of camel filariasis, wet blood film, thin blood film, thick blood film and concentration technique (Knott's technique). From the total number o...

In vitro anti- Acanthamoeba activity of the commercial chitosan and nano-chitosan against pathogenic Acanthamoeba genotype T4
AbstractAcanthamoeba keratitis (AK) is a rare but serious infection of the eye and can lead to blindness. The effective and safe medical therapy remains unclear for AK until present. Antimicrobial activity and biological characteristic of chitosan encourage screening of it againstAcanthamoeba. Thus, in vitro anti-amoebic activities of commercial chitosan and nano-chitosan were tested on pathogenicAcanthamoeba genotype T4, a causative agent of human AK. TheAcanthamoeba spp. was isolated from the keratitis patient. TheAcanthamoeba genotype T4 was approved using PCR method followed by sequencing technique. Chitosan nanopartic...

Epidemiology of gastrointestinal worm infections in pigs reared in Enugu State, Nigeria
This study determined the distributions, determinants and dynamics of GWI and also the effect of the infection on production parameters in pigs reared in Enugu State, Nigeria. The GWI were determined by faecal egg counts following standard procedure. Sixty piggeries and 564 pigs were randomly selected for the study. Questionnaire survey was conducted to obtain data on some production parameters and risk practices aiding GWI in the piggeries. An overall prevalence of 88.3% (53/60) and 68.1% (384/564) at farm and individual pig levels respectively were recorded. High egg counts of single and mixed infections involvingStrongy...
