Comparison of the Clinical Effectiveness of Intra-Articular Injection with Different Substances After TMJ Arthroscopy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
ConclusionMultiple substances have been infiltrated within the temporomandibular joint, with sodium hyaluronate/hyaluronic acid being the most studied. However, the benefit of substances like ATM artroscopia adyuvantes has not been clearly established. It is recommended in future studies that the substances and results be evaluated in the same way to obtain more homogeneous studies. (Source: Journal of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery)

Oral Wound Healing: A Scoping Review and Proposal of a New Index for Palatal Mucosa
ConclusionThe healing indices devised for gingival and periodontal tissues cannot be applied to palatal healing due to the differences in clinical and histological aspects. Therefore, a new index to monitor the healing response specifically for the soft tissues in the palate has been proposed. This maybe particularly useful in cleft palate repair and other procedures performed over the palatal tissues. (Source: Journal of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery)

Prosthetic Condyle with Concurrent Microvascular Reconstruction for Mandibular Disarticulation Defects: A Retrospective Series
ConclusionProsthetic condyle outcomes are best when concurrent bony free flap reconstruction is performed with ascending ramus reconstruction. Avoid prosthetic condyles in cases where the articular disc is removed, and cases where a large amount of dead space is expected around the prosthesis. Careful attention to occlusal factors and vertical support of the reconstruction plate can lead to good functional outcomes. A review of the literature and potential future advances is also presented. (Source: Journal of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery)

Management of Short Face Syndrome with Masseter Muscle Hypertrophy: A Surgery-First Approach
AbstractShort face syndrome (SFS) is a condition with a clinical impression of deficient lower anterior facial height, which is an esthetic disharmony based on vertical facial proportions rather than absolute dimensions. Masseter hypertrophy is one of the etiologic factors in which there is an enlargement of unilateral or bilateral masseter muscles. Clinically, it presents as a quadrangular face characterized by bulging of the mandibular angle giving a muscular appearance. Despite the muscular origin, surgery should be aimed toward bony reduction (osteoplasty) followed by supplemented myotomy. This case report addresses on...
