Incidence of Mortality and Its Relation to Comorbidity in Ludwig ’s Angina: A Retrospective Study
AbstractIntroductionLudwig ’s angina is a serious life-threatening infective condition of maxillofacial region due to odontogenic origin which is clinically diagnosed by its clinical signs and symptoms. Airway management and early surgical decompression is the main stay of management. The mortality rates in Ludwig’s angin a remains multivariate. There is a paucity in literature regarding the mortality rates of this disease.Aim and ObjectivesAim of this retrospective study is to describes the characteristics, probable cause of death and mortality rates of patients with co-morbidities presenting to the emergency departme...

A Rare Pediatric Encounter: Diagnosing and Managing Upward Eye Deviation Due to Maxillary Sinus Hydatid Cyst
AbstractEchinococcosis is a zoonotic parasitic disease caused by the larval stages of different Echinococcus species, leading to a significant global public health concern. The case report highlights an extremely rare cystic echinococcosis manifestation in an 8-year-old male child's maxilla, causing an upward deviation in his left eye. No previous significant medical history was noted, and a detailed examination uncovered a lesion within the left maxillary sinus. Advanced imaging techniques, including CT and MRI, depicted the cystic nature of the lesion and its impact on adjacent structures. A collaborative surgical interv...

Analysis of Effect of Melatonin on Postoperative Sensory Nerve Recovery Following Open Reduction and Internal Fixation of Anterior Mandible Fractures: A Prospective Randomized Control Trial
ConclusionNeurosensory recovery following ORIF of mandibular fractures was better in the melatonin group as compared to the control group and therefore the perioperative administration of 10  mg. Melatonin can be recommended for quicker and better nerve recovery in the anterior mandibular fractures requiring close manipulation of the mental nerve during treatment. The Effectiveness of Photobiomodulation Using 940-nm Diode Laser for Reducing Pain, Swelling and Trismus After Third Molar Surgery: A Single-Blinded Randomized Control Trial
ConclusionPhotobiomodulation is a promising modality to reduce the post-operative pain and trismus. Patients in the study group returned to normal function sooner than the control group. Photobiomodulation is a newer non-invasive modality to reduce the post-operative sequalae after third molar surgery.Clinical Trial Registration: The trial is registered at ctri.nic.in with the number CTRI/2022/02/040615 on 25th February 2022. Microplate Versus Combined Microplate-Miniplate in Fixation of Zygomaticomaxillary Complex Fractures: An In-Silico Analysis of Biomechanical Parameters
ConclusionThe L-shaped and lateral-edge plates in both samples had the highest and lowest amount of displacement, respectively. The lateral-edge plates in both samples had the highest VMSD and MPSD, which was higher in S1 than S2. The L-shaped plate had the lowest VMSD and MPSD in both samples.
