Retromandibular Approach and its Different Variations in the Management of Fracture Condyle: Surgical Experience
AbstractThe management of condylar fractures is a controversial topic in maxillofacial surgery. Surgical treatment is the preferred treatment choice nowadays and the article aims to describe different variations of the retromandibular approach with their surgical outcome based on experience. A total of 15 cases were managed with the retromandibular approach and its different variations. We advocate retromandibular approach for the management of condyle fractures, and among which retromandibular retroparotid and retromandibular anteroparotid provide best accessiblity with less bleeding and minimal risk of injury to the faci...

Gossypiboma at the Glabella Region: A Unique Finding!
AbstractLatrogenic errors in the surgical specialty are not uncommon, they can be unintentional and accidental or simply due to neglect and failure to adhere to surgical protocols. Retention of foreign objects such as gauze in the surgical site may pose a diagnostic challenge for the surgeon. The clinical and radiological findings are often inconclusive and misleading causing delay in diagnosis as well as treatment. In this article we present a case of recurrent swelling at the glabella region with history of excision of lipoma. The swelling was excised and it turned out to be retained gauze from previous surgery. It is im...

Mucormycosis of Mandible: A Series of Three Cases
AbstractMucormycosis is a deep, opportunistic fungal infection that can be fatal and is brought on by a variety of pathogenic species. It is an uncommon infection that spread widely during the second Covid-19 infection wave. The most prevalent subtype of the numerous varieties is rhino cerebral mucormycosis. In addition to inhalation, lacerated or injured skin can also serve as a port of entry for these fungi. Numerous studies on mucormycosis of mandible have been reported in the literature, but mucormycosis of mandible in Covid-19 patients is very rare. This paper aims to report three cases of mucormycosis of mandible who...

Oral Metronomic Chemotherapy in Advanced and Metastatic Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Need of the Hour
ConclusionWith current evidence, there is a definite role of OMCT in treatment of oral SCC. OMCT can be an alternative in patients who are not tolerable or affordable for standard palliative chemotherapy and also an option for patient who are waiting for surgery. However, results of ongoing and future studies on exact mechanism, indications, and implications of this drug regimen would help in integration OMCT in current standard of therapy.Graphical abstract (Source: Journal of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery)

Comparative Evaluation of the Efficacy and Onset of Local Anesthesia Using Buffered 2% Lidocaine with 1:100,000 Adrenaline, Non-buffered 2% Lidocaine with 1:100,000 Adrenaline, Buffered 4% Articaine with 1:100,000 Adrenaline and Non-buffered 4% Articaine with 1:100,000 Adrenaline in Dental Extraction
ConclusionIn conclusion, the addition of sodium bicarbonate as a buffering agent decreases time of onset and increases the effectiveness of local anesthetics, thus providing comfort to the patient. The mean onset of time for first symptom as well as lip numbness was more for non-buffered lidocaine followed by non-buffered articaine, buffered lidocaine and buffered articaine. The mean onset of time for subjective and objective symptoms was more for non-buffered anesthetic solution as compared to buffered anesthetic solution. VAS readings were not statistically significant among the four groups. (Source: Journal of Maxillofa...

Diagnostic and Prognostic Value of Indicators of Bone Metabolism Markers in Patients Following Mandibulectomy and Free Fibula Flap Reconstruction with Endosteal Implants
ConclusionStudies have shown that the long-term survival and success rates of implants placed in the reconstructed areas may guarantee an excellent prognosis of implant-supported prostheses. Bone markers in blood serum osteocalcin andβ-Cross-Laps can be used to evaluate the rate of bone remodeling, which allows you to determine the time of implantation. Efficacy of Nasal Floor Augmentation on the Survival Rate of Dental Implants: A Systematic Review
ConclusionThe results of this systematic review indicate that implant placement by nasal floor augmentation techniques can be considered as a predictable treatment modality. However, due to the scarcity of literature, more studies should be carried out on proving the efficacy of nasal floor augmentation on survival rate or success of dental Implants. Nasolabial flap: Reconstruction in Oral Cancer —An Unfolding Fact of Survival
ConclusionModiolus (corner of mouth) which is a chiasma of 9 facial expression muscles, is supplied by muscular branches of facial artery and anastomosed by transverse facial artery and ipsilateral and contralateral superior labial artery. After facial artery ligation, these muscular branches of the chiasma of muscles are responsible for the survival of inferiorly oriented random-patterned NLF after MRND. This is because the muscular branches of the facial artery provide an alternate blood supply to the modiolus and its associated muscles. This helps to prevent necrosis or tissue death in the area. Breast Ductal Infiltrative Adenocarcinoma Metastasis to the Mandible
AbstractMetastatic lesions to the jaws are rare. The oral sites to which metastasis most commonly occur are the jaws, the gingiva, and the tongue. Lower jaw is a more frequent site of metastasis compared to the upper jaw with posterior areas (ramus, body) that are more prone to the deposition of cancerous cells due to presence of hematopoietic bone marrow, subdivision of local blood vessels and reduced velocity of blood flow. In fact, the formation of secondary foci of tumor colonization occurs by hematogenous dissemination of tumor emboli, that accumulate in regions with larger amounts of bone marrow and low circulator...
