Validation of Tokyo Guidelines 2018 for Safety and Mortality Benefit from Urgent ERCP in Acute Cholangitis across Different Age Groups
ConclusionThis study demonstrates the mortality benefit from urgent ERCP for AC in different age groups and describes the safety of performing urgent ERCP in patients of various ages. Therefore, we recommend that urgent ERCP be performed according to the TG18 guidelines regardless of age. (Source: Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery)

Sequential Histologic Evolution of Gallbladder Inflammation in Acute Cholecystitis over the First 10  Days after Onset of Symptoms
ConclusionsSevere necrosis may develop rapidly and be present in the early period after symptom-onset of AC. Cholecystectomy may be reasonable in some patients but by day 7-10,severe necrosis and hemorrhage may be expected to be present in most patients. Comprehensive data of 4502 patients newly diagnosed with colorectal liver metastasis between 2015 and 2017, and prognostic data of 2427 patients newly diagnosed with colorectal liver metastasis in 2013 and 2014: Third report of a nationwide survey in Japan
AbstractTo improve treatment outcomes in patients with colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM), the Joint Committee for Nationwide Survey on CRLM was established by the Japanese Society for Cancer of the Colon and Rectum and the Japanese Society of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery. The aim of the study was to evaluate transition in the characteristics and treatment strategy in CRLM patients and analyze prognostic factors using large-scale data. The present study summarizes the data of patients newly diagnosed between 2015 and 2017 and presents prognostic data of patients newly diagnosed in 2013 and 2014. Survival curves were g...

Clinical evaluation of a surgical difficulty score for laparoscopic cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis proposed in the Tokyo Guidelines 2018
ConclusionsThe difficulty score in TG18 appropriately reflects the surgical difficulty of LC for AC. The median, highest, and mean cores of the five categories are all available, and the highest scores are simple and versatile. (Source: Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery)

EUS ‐guided tissue acquisition using a novel torque technique is comparable with that with the fanning technique for solid pancreatic lesions: a multicenter randomized trial
ConclusionsThe new torque technique enables the acquisition of better-quality samples and can potentially increase the diagnostic outcomes in the EUS-FNB of pancreatic solid masses, with the same recommendations as those for the fanning technique.
