Empirical Antibiotics for Acute Cholecystitis – What Generation of Antibiotics is an Appropriate Choice? A prospective, randomized controlled study
ConclusionsThe empirical use of first ‐generation cephalosporins for mild‐to‐moderate AC without gallbladder perforation was not inferior to using second‐generation cephalosporin for prophylaxis against postoperative infection. Our results could allow for a tailored treatment strategy of empirical antibiotics according to the se verity of the cholecystitis. (Source: Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery)

Vascular Disorders of the Gallbladder and Bile Ducts – Imaging Findings
AbstractVascular disorders of the gallbladder and biliary tree are many and varied. In the acute setting, the clinical presentation of vascular conditions such as haemorrhagic cholecystitis and gangrenous cholecystitis are non ‐specific and rely on imaging for diagnosis and triaging for emergent surgery. These haemorrhagic and ischemic complications of acute cholecystitis are uncommon but potentially fatal. Haemorrhage into the gallbladder and biliary tree, from other causes, may itself result in acute cholecystitis. Kn owledge of vascular anatomy of the gallbladder and biliary tree is essential for surgeons to prevent s...

Evaluation of accuracy of laparoscopic liver mono ‐segmentectomy using the Glissonian approach with indocyanine green fluorescence negative staining by comparing estimated and actual resection volumes: A single‐center retrospective cohort study
ConclusionsLLMS with Glissonian approach using ICG negative imaging ensured safe and accurate procedure owing to facilitated visualization of the resection line. Our approach was effective in avoiding postoperative liver dysfunction and securing radical resection. In addition, it might be helpful in TS education of LLMS. Clinical diagnostic criteria for IgG4 ‐related sclerosing cholangitis 2020
AbstractSeveral years have passed since the clinical diagnostic criteria for IgG4 ‐related sclerosing cholangitis 2012 were published. New findings and knowledge have accumulated since then. The Research Committees for IgG4 ‐related Diseases and for Intractable Diseases of the Liver and Biliary Tract, in association with the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare of Japan and the Japan Biliary Association, have established a working group consisting of researchers specializing in IgG4‐SC and have drawn up new clini cal diagnostic criteria for IgG4‐SC 2020.The diagnosis of IgG4 ‐SC is based on a combination of the ...

EUS ‐guided antegrade pancreatic guidewire placement for double‐guidewire technique in single‐balloon enteroscope‐assisted ERCP
AbstractAn 81 ‐year‐old man with distal gastrectomy and Roux‐en‐Y reconstruction for gastric cancer presented with obstructive jaundice caused by cancer recurrence. Percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage was not attempted because the patient did not consent to external drainage tube placement, even if it was temporary. Biliary or pancreatic cannulation was impossible with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) using a short‐type single‐balloon enteroscope (SBE, SIF‐H290S; Olympus Medical Systems, Tokyo, Japan) because cancer had invaded the papilla. Surgical approaches for minimally invasive distal pancreatectomy: A systematic review

Glissonean approach for hepatic inflow control in minimally invasive anatomic liver resection: A systematic review
ConclusionsGlissonean approach is safe and feasible for MIALR with several reported advantages compared to the conventional hilar approach. Clear knowledge of Laennec's capsule anatomy is necessary and serves as a guide for the dissection. However, the best surgical approach to be performed depends on surgeon experience and patients ’ characteristics. Standardization of the Glissonean approach for MIALR is important.
