Fistula risk score ‐adjusted comparison of postoperative pancreatic fistula following laparoscopic vs open pancreatoduodenectomy
ConclusionDespite a higher risk score in the LPD group, the CR ‐POPF was similar following both procedures in the unadjusted and FRS‐risk‐adjusted comparisons. The CR‐POPF was more significantly affected by patient risk factors such as the soft pancreas and small pancreatic duct. (Source: Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery)

Pre ‐aspiration of a large retention cyst followed by EUS‐FNB for the successful diagnosis of a patient with pancreatic cancer
AbstractEndoscopic ultrasonography ‐guided fine needle biopsy (EUS‐FNB) is considered a safe and accurate procedure for establishing pathological diagnoses of pancreatic masses [1‐3]. However, it is occasionally difficult to perform EUS‐FNB owing to the presence of blood vessels or cystic lesions intervening with the puncture route. Herein, we report a case of a patient who had pancreatic cancer and a large retention cyst, in whom EUS‐FNB was performed successfully after aspiration of the cyst. Surgery versus external beam radiotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma involving the inferior vena cava or right atrium: A systematic review and meta ‐analysis
ConclusionsSurgery could be an effective local modality for achieving the best survival rate, though it requires efforts to minimize morbidities and careful patient selection. EBRT, as a noninvasive modality, is a valid palliative option, especially for high ‐risk patients with a shorter life expectancy. (Source: Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery)

A comparison of minimally invasive vs open distal pancreatectomy for resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: Propensity score matching analysis

Preoperative carbohydrate antigen 19 ‐9 and standard uptake value of positron emission tomography‐computed tomography as prognostic markers in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma
ConclusionsCA19 ‐9 and SUVmax are strong prognostic biological factors in resectable PDAC. Moreover, patients with high CA19‐9 level and SUVmax are not indicated for upfront surgery. (Source: Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery)
