Revisiting the Ranson score in acute pancreatitis: is the drop in hematocrit a worrisome sign?
ConclusionThe revised Ranson scoring system had better predictive ability for all clinical outcomes compared to the original Ranson in our large sample of 938 patients. However, the revised version should be further validated by prospective and multicenter studies. (Source: Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Sciences)

Extranodal extension influences prognosis in pancreatic head cancer: A retrospective cohort study
ConclusionsENE significantly predicted a poor prognosis among patients with pancreatic head cancer, especially those with nodal metastasis. Therefore, ENE should be considered a prognostic factor in future editions of the staging system. (Source: Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Sciences)

Risk factors for Postoperative Pneumonia after Hepatectomy with Extrahepatic Bile Duct Resection
ConclusionsThe incidence of POP in patients undergoing hepatectomy with BDR was 5.8%. A %VC<80%, age ≥74 years old, and FLR ratio ≤40% were identified as preoperative predictive factors of developing POP. (Source: Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Sciences)

Impact of Delay in Adjuvant Therapy for Gallbladder Adenocarcinoma
ConclusionCurrent guidelines support the use of adjuvant therapy following resection of GBAC. This national cohort study demonstrates that delays in adjuvant therapy>12  weeks did not impact long-term survival. (Source: Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Sciences)

A new liver regeneration molecular mechanism involving hepatic stellate cells, Kupffer cells, and glucose ‐regulated protein 78 as a new hepatotrophic factor
ConclusionsThe M2BPGi-activated KCs secrete GRP78, which facilitates liver regeneration and improves the survival in a lethal mice model. Our data suggest that the new hepatotrophic factor GRP78 may be a promising therapeutic tool for lethal liver failure. (Source: Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Sciences)
