Combinatorial Therapies: Embracing Our Multifaceted Future
The future of radiation oncology will be more complex, not less. Radiation therapy, like all cancer therapies, must evolve within a dramatically shifting landscape. In the wake of radical technological advancements in radiation planning and delivery over the past 3 decades, today's radiation therapy is highly safe, efficient, and efficacious. Today, it is gratifying that in many common situations, radiation therapy is a critical component in achieving cure, and in patients with very advanced cancer, it offers remarkably effective palliation. Early Disease Recurrence Following Post-operative HPV ctDNA Directed Active Surveillance in Oropharyngeal Carcinoma – Outcomes of a Prospective Pilot Study
Human papilloma virus cell-free tumor DNA (HPV ctDNA) may be able to detect minimal residual disease prior to clinically apparent recurrence. We hypothesized that undetectable post-operative HPV ctDNA can be used to select patients for active surveillance and conducted a pilot study (NCT05307939) omitting or delaying adjuvant radiation until patients develop detectable HPV ctDNA (cohort A). Efficacy of a Navigation-Based Intervention vs Usual Care for Decreasing Delays in Starting Guideline-Adherent Adjuvant Therapy for Patients with Head and Neck Cancer
This study tests the hypothesis that NDURE (Navigation for Disparities and Untimely Radiation thErapy), a patient navigation-based intervention, will decrease delays in starting guideline-adherent PORT relative to Usual Care (UC). Outcome After Modern Proton Beam Therapy in Childhood Craniopharyngioma: Results of the Prospective Registry Study KiProReg
Craniopharyngiomas (CPs) are rare tumors of the sellar region often leading to significant comorbidities due to their close proximity to critical structures. The aim of this study was to analyze survival outcome and late toxicities after surgery and proton beam therapy (PBT) in childhood CPs. Radiation Therapy Quality Assurance Analysis of Alliance A021501: Preoperative mFOLFIRINOX or mFOLFIRINOX plus hypofractionated radiation therapy for borderline resectable adenocarcinoma of the pancreas.
Alliance A021501 is the first randomized trial to evaluate stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for borderline resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy. In this post hoc study, we reviewed the quality of radiation therapy (RT) delivered. (Source: International Journal of Radiation Oncology * Biology * Physics)
