Extrapelvic Endometriosis Mimicking Peritoneal Surface Malignancy: Case Report and a Review of Literature
AbstractExtrapelvic endometriosis is a rare presentation of endometriosis with atypical clinical symptoms. It can mimic peritoneal surface malignancy, as well as some abdominal infectious diseases. A 29-year-old Moroccan woman presented with abdominal pain, progressive abdominal distention, and an intermittent inflammatory syndrome. Imaging revealed multiple, progressively growing abdominal cysts. She had elevated tumor markers CA125 and CA19.9. Despite thorough investigation, several differential diagnoses persisted for a long time. Definitive pathological diagnosis could only be established after debulking surgery. Liter...

Salvage Robot-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy (sRARP) for Radiation-Recurrent Prostate Cancer: a Single-Center Experience
AbstractThis case series reported on five patients with radiation-recurrent localized prostate cancer (PCa) who underwent salvage robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (sRARP). Median postoperative follow-up period was 8  months. Median (range) peri-operative parameters such as operative time, the estimated blood loss, and length of hospital stay were 127 min (113–158), 61 ml (54–111), and 9 days (8–11), respectively. None of the five patients required conversion to an open approach or required a blood tra nsfusion, or experienced a rectal/ureteral injury. Urinary leakage was present in one patient (20%) at the in...

Outcomes of Laparoscopic Optimal Interval Cytoreduction Surgery (LOICS) in Patients with Advanced Ovarian Cancers Having Low Burden Disease
AbstractLaparoscopy has been increasingly utilised for cytoreduction surgery in patients with early ovarian cancers. The present study tries to assess the feasibility of laparoscopic interval cytoreduction surgery (LOICS) in patients with advanced ovarian cancer (AOC) having low burden residual disease. A retrospective study of was done of AOC ’s who underwent LOICS between 2010 and 2014. Epithelial ovarian cancer patients who underwent interval cytoreduction surgery were included and analysed for short-term and long-term outcomes. In all, 36 patients with stage III ovarian cancers were included in the analysis. Twenty-t...

Postoperative Analgesic Efficacy of Intraoperative Pectoral Nerve Block for Modified Radical Mastectomy: a Double-Blind Prospective Randomised Interventional Study
This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of PECs II block, which was given intraoperative under direct vision after performing modified radical mastectomy for breast cancer patients. This prospective randomised study was comprised of a PECs II group (n = 30) and a control group (n = 30). Group A patients received 25 ml of 0.25% bupivacaine for PECs II block intraoperatively after the surgical resection was done. Both groups were compared with respect to the demographic and clinical parameters, total intraoperative fentanyl dose, total duration of surgery, postoperative pain score (Numerical Rating Scal...

CCND1 Amplification in Pancreatic Ductal and Ampullary Adenocarcinoma and Its Impact on Patients ’ Survival: a Single-Center Observational Study
AbstractStudies conducted worldwide in the last few decades have demonstrated that various high- and low-frequency inherited and somatic mutations play important roles in the pathogenesis of periampullary carcinoma. Owing to relatively inaccessible location and lack of specific early diagnostic signs, majority of periampullary tumors are difficult to manage. Limited chemotherapeutic options that are available are highly toxic and not very efficacious. CyclinD1, if found to be amplified in these malignancies, might become an important gene to be targeted for monoclonal antibody therapy. An analytical retrospective-prospecti...

Local Excision Versus Total Mesorectal Excision After Favourable Response to Neoadjuvant Therapy in Low Rectal Cancer: a Multi-centre Experience
This study is a prospective comparative phase III study, where 46 rectal cancer patients were recruited from patients attending Oncology Centre of Mansoura University and Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth University Hospital NHS with a median follow-up 36  months. The two recruited groups were as follows:group (A), 18 patients who underwent conventional radical surgery by TME; and group (B), 28 patients who underwent trans-anal endoscopic local excision. Patients of resectable low rectal cancer (below 10 cms from anal verge) with sphincter saving procedures were included: cT1-T3N0. The median operative time for LE was 1...

Recurrence After Colectomy for Locally Advanced Colon Cancer: Experience from a Developing Country
AbstractRisk factors for disease recurrence following curative resection for locally advanced colon cancer (LACC) remain unclear as conflicting results have been reported in the literature. The aim of this study was to examine these factors in the setting of developing country ’s health care system affected by limited accessibility to the multimodal cancer treatment. Patients who had undergone curative colon resection for LACC between 2004 and 2018 were included. Data were obtained from a prospectively maintained database. Factors associated with disease recurrence, typ es of recurrence and recurrence-free survival were ...

A Systemic Review and Meta-analysis of Laparoscopic Surgery Versus Open Surgery for Gallbladder Cancer
ConclusionsOur present study demonstrates that overall survival is significantly increased with open approach when compared with laparoscopic approach. There is no difference in recurrence rate, operative time, blood loss, lymph node yield, and postoperative complications between the open and laparoscopic cholecystectomy groups.
