Clinical, Radiological, and Pathological Correlation of Mandibular Invasion in Carcinoma Bucco-alveolar Complex
AbstractA prospective cross-sectional study was conducted to correlate clinically, radiologically, and pathologically the mandibular invasion in carcinoma bucco-alveolar complex. All biopsy-proven oral cavity cancer cases (64 patients) were assessed clinically and radiologically for involvement of the mandible. Preoperative clinicoradiological findings were compared with postoperative histopathological findings. In our study, oral cancer was 4 times more prevalent in males as compared to females and clinical evaluation was found to be highly sensitive in predicting mandibular invasion. Orthopantomogram showed sensitivity o...

Sinonasal NUT Carcinoma: A Call for Increased Attention to a Vital Clinical Diagnosis
AbstractNuclear protein in testis (NUT) carcinoma is a highly aggressive and poorly differentiated carcinoma, defined by presence of NUT rearrangements in theNUTM1 (NUT midline carcinoma family member 1) gene. This tumor has a predilection for midline and paramidline structures of the upper aerodigestive tract and mediastinum and has a devastating clinical course, thus an early diagnosis is indispensable. However, due to its low incidence, this is often misdiagnosed by the clinicians and pathologists. Here, we report a case of NUT midline carcinoma of the nasal cavity in a 53-year-old man who presented with chief complaint...

Metastatic Oncocytic Papillary Renal Cell Carcinoma of Scalp Diagnosed by Fine Needle Aspiration: A Rare Entity with Review of Literature
We report a case of metastatic Oncocytic Papillary Renal Cell Carcinoma (OPRCC) over the scalp as the first presentation of the underlying primary tumor diagnosed on fine-needle aspiration and confirmed by immunohistochemistry on the cell block. (Source: Indian Journal of Surgical Oncology)

Does the Planning Target Volume Correlate with Toxicity for Head and Neck Cancer Patients Undergoing Radiation? A Prospective Observational Study
In this study, we aimed to study the impact of planning target volume (PTV) on toxicities in head and neck cancer (HNC) patients assigned to receive radiation with or without chemotherapy. Planning target volume (PTV) of 35 histologically proven non-nasopharyngeal head and neck cancer patients undergoing radiation with or without chemotherapy was recorded in cubic centimeters (cc). Their PTV high risk (PTVH) and PTV low risk (PTVL) were correlated with mucositis and dermatitis assessed weekly during treatment and at 2  weeks and 6 weeks post treatment. Thirty-five patients were treated with chemoradiation. Their mean PTV...

Minimally Invasive Simultaneous Colorectal and Liver Resection for Synchronous Colorectal Liver Metastasis —Short-Term Outcomes
AbstractSurgical management of colorectal disease and liver metastatectomy can be staged or synchronous. A minimally invasive approach in synchronous resection in the selected group of patients may improve postoperative outcomes. The present study aimed to explore the safety and feasibility of simultaneous liver and colorectal resection for synchronous metastasis by a minimally invasive approach in terms of major morbidity and R0 resection rates. The present study is a retrospective review of a prospectively maintained database. All patients who underwent minimally invasive simultaneous resection of colorectal malignancy a...

A Study of Ki-67 Immunostaining in Prostate Carcinomas and Its Correlation with Gleason ’s Score and Prognosis: An Experience at a Tertiary Centre in the Himalayan Foothills
AbstractProstate cancer is a significant cause of cancer-related mortality among men worldwide, necessitating the exploration of prognostic biomarkers to aid in accurate risk assessment and treatment decision-making. This cross-sectional study aimed to comprehensively evaluate the role of Ki-67 as a prognostic marker in prostate cancer by examining its association with clinicopathological parameters. A total of 102 archived cases of prostate core biopsy specimens, histopathologically reported as prostate carcinoma, were included in this study. Histopathological grading was conducted using Gleason ’s scoring and grading s...

Combined Metronomic Chemo-immunotherapy (CMCI) in Head and Neck Cancers –An Experience from a Developing Country
In conclusion, nivolumab along with metronomic chemotherapy with low-dose capecitabine was very well tolerated and exhibited anti-tumor activity with a CBR of 66%, 6-month OS of 83.3%, and 6-month PFS of 66.6%, in extensively p retreated patients with HNSCCs. Additional studies of nivolumab and metronomic chemotherapy and immuno-immuno combination therapy in these diseases are ongoing. (Source: Indian Journal of Surgical Oncology)

Pathological Complete Response as Outcome Modifier in Breast Cancer Patients and Brain Metastasis
This study aimed to find outcome-modifying factors in BCBM. Clinical, demographic, subtype, and pathological response of primary brain imaging characteristics of BCBM patients were correlated with brain metastasis-free interval and survival after brain metastasis was studied from January 2020 to March 2022. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients had the earliest presentation for brain metastases (mean 45.4  years) vs luminal B (mean 57.93 years). Both brain metastasis-free interval (BMFI) and brain metastasis overall survival (BMOS) were maximum in HER2-positive subtype (mean 22.8 and 11.55 months) and least in T...

Innovative Technique of Chest Wall Reconstruction After Extensive Tumour Ablation Surgery
AbstractChest wall reconstruction is among one of the most challenging surgeries because the defect comprises multiple components and each needs to be reconstructed separately with like tissues. Chest wall reconstruction ranges from simple skin cover to complex bony and or mediastinal/precordial reconstruction. Various methods of reconstruction include autologous as well alloplastic techniques. Autologous techniques include regional or distant flaps with or without bone. Whereas alloplastic techniques include the placement of a variety of implant materials like titanium plate/mesh, stainless steel mesh, medpore and biocomp...

Feasibility of the ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) Protocol in Patients Undergoing Gastrointestinal Cancer Surgeries in a Tertiary Care Hospital —A Prospective Interventional Study
AbstractEnhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols have emerged as a promising approach to optimize perioperative care and improve outcomes in various surgical specialties. Despite feasibility studies on ERAS in various surgeries, there remains a paucity of research focusing on gastrointestinal cancer surgeries in the Indian context. The primary objective is to evaluate the compliance rate of the ERAS protocol and secondary objectives include the compliance rate of individual components of the protocol, the complications, the length of hospital stay, and the challenges faced during implementation in patients undergoi...

Successful Salvage of Partial Gastric Conduit Necrosis by Primary Anastomosis in a Post-Esophagectomy Patient
We describe a successful case wherein we salvaged a patient following a McKeown esophagectomy and gastric pull-up, who developed partial full-thickness necrosis of the gastric conduit postoperatively, along with pleural and mediastinal sepsis. We managed this situation through thoracic debridement, take-down of the anastomosis, resection of the devitalized segment of the conduit, and primary esophagogastric anastomosis. Conduit perfusion was demonstrated using ICG fluorescent angiography. This case illustrates that, once debridement and sepsis control are achieved, a primary anastomosis, if feasible, can be safely performe...
