Parietal Peritoneum Interposition Tube Graft as an Autologous Substitute for the Reconstruction of Inferior Vena cava Following Resection of Retroperitoneal Sarcoma
This study aimed to increase the awareness of surgical oncologists about the venous reconstruction technique using a large autologous peritoneal graft. An elderly male presented to our cancer center with a history of persistent abdominal pain. The computed tomography (CT) scan reported a large retroperitoneal mass involving the right kidney and the inferior vena cava (IVC). En bloc tumor resection with right nephrectomy and resection of the IVC extending from just above the bifurcation up to the origin of the renal veins was done. IVC reconstruction was performed using autologous parietal peritoneum tube graft. Harvesting t...

Extramammary Metastases to the Breast: a Clinical and Diagnostic Masquerader
We report 4 cases of extramammary primary cancers metastasising to the breast, diagnosed by biopsy, in a period of 5 years in our tertiary care centre. Each of the cases had different characteristics. A good knowledge of cytomorphology and histomorphology, together with clinical correlation and comparison with previous histopathological evidence, will prevent a misdiagnosis and aid in optimal management and therapy. Second Primary Malignancies — a Retrospective Analysis from a Regional Cancer Centre of South India
AbstractThe early diagnosis and aggressive treatment in patients diagnosed with a cancer led them to lead a life with a good survival rate. This in turn leads to increase in the number of second primary malignancies. Our article aims to report the prevalence and survival of both synchronous and metachronous second primary malignancies and challenges in treatment by reviewing our retrospective data. A hospital based gathering of retrospective data of the patients diagnosed with second primary malignancies over 9 years from January 2014 to June 2022. Patient details with regards to age, sex, distribution of primary sites,...

A Clinical and Immunopathological Analysis of Carcinoma of the Ovary with an Emphasis on Post-chemotherapy Histopathologic Changes
AbstractOvarian cancers are a heterogeneous group of malignant tumors that differ with respect to pathogenesis, morphology, molecular features, and behavior. Pathologists and clinicians need to be aware of the advances in diagnosis and the changes which occur after chemotherapy to offer the optimal treatment to each patient. The present work aims to study the morphologic and immunohistochemical (IHC) profile of primary ovarian cancers with an assessment of post-chemotherapy changes. A total of 51 cases were included in the study from June 2017 to June 2019 (prospective and retrospective). The demographic and clinical detai...

“Flap of Hope: a Pectoralis Major Muscle Solution for Tracheal Resection Closure”: Case Report
AbstractMedullary carcinoma of the thyroid is a rare type of thyroid cancer that arises from the parafollicular cells or C-cells, which produce calcitonin. It accounts for approximately 5 –10% of all thyroid cancers (Leboulleux et al. in Clin Endocrinol 61(3):299–310,2004). The main treatment for medullary thyroid carcinoma is surgery, which involves the removal of the thyroid gland and any affected lymph nodes. In advanced cases where the cancer has spread to nearby structures such as the trachea (Gupta et al. in Indian J Surg Oncol 11(1):75 –79,2020), tracheal resection followed by reconstruction may be necessary t...

Pharyngocutaneous Fistula Following Total Laryngectomy: a High-Volume Tertiary Centre Series
AbstractPharyngocutaneous fistula is the leading complication following total laryngectomy. It delays complementary treatments, speech rehabilitation and oral feeding. Despite evolving medical care, fistula incidence remains high. There is no consensus regarding risk factors for fistula development. A standard score for fistula prediction is lacking. Study population included all patients submitted to total laryngectomy (with or without pharyngectomy) due to laryngeal or hypopharyngeal tumours, occurring between January 1st, 2012, and December 31st, 2016. Patient demographics were recorded as well as disease and treatment ...

Cytoreductive Surgery with HIPEC as Primary Treatment for Advanced Epithelial Ovarian Carcinoma: Upfront or Interval —ISPSM Collaborative Study
Abstract
Cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC has shown promising results in the interval setting of advanced epithelial ovarian cancer. Its role in upfront setting has not yet been established. All eligible patients underwent CRS-HIPEC as per institution protocol. Relevant data was collected prospectively in institutional HIPEC registry and analyzed retrospectively for the study period from February 2014 to February 2020. Out of 190 patients, 80 underwent CRS-HIPEC in upfront setting and 110 in interval setting. The median age was 54 ± 7.45 years, upfront group had higher PCI (14.1 ± 8.75 vs. 9.6 ± 5.2. 2)...

Rare Variants of Malignant Peritoneal Mesothelioma: a Literature Review
AbstractPrimary peritoneal mesothelioma (PM) is a rare and aggressive malignancy that arises from the peritoneum and classified into diffuse malignant peritoneum mesothelioma (DMPM) and borderline variants, viz. multicystic peritoneal mesothelioma (MCPM) and well-differentiated papillary peritoneal mesothelioma (WDPPM). The borderline variants are rarer than conventional DMPM, are less aggressive form accounting for 3 –5% of all cases of peritoneal mesothelioma. In this narrative review article, we have discussed the pathogenesis, clinical presentation, natural history, and management of these rarer variants of PM, viz. ...

Grade 3 Proximal Humerus Giant Cell Tumour: Is Resection and Reconstruction with Prosthesis a Valuable Option?
Abstract
Grade 3 proximal humerus giant cell tumours are uncommon and the results of their surgical management with prosthetic replacement are not well established. We retrospectively studied patients with grade 3 giant cell tumours of proximal humerus treated with excision and prosthetic replacement from January 2009 and December 2018. We identified 13 patients who underwent tumour excision and prosthetic replacement. There were 7 (53.8%) men and 6 (46.2%) women. The mean age at diagnosis was 30.4 years (range 16–48 years). The mean follow-up period was 72.2 months (range 24–132). Margins were positive in 4 (30...

Utilizing Condoms in Laparoscopic Gynecologic Cancer Surgeries: A Profitable Safeguard?
AbstractMinimally invasive approach is a well-established strategy in the initial exploration or definitive management of the eligible gynecological cancers. It provides the benefits of improved surgical recovery to the patients. However, the last step of the specimen extraction through the smallest incision possible is always challenging for most of the surgeons. The in-bag retrieval of specimen needs utmost attention in most of the malignancies for the preservation of tumor integrity to avoid tumor seedling and upstaging of the disease. The various kinds of commercially available bags are already being utilized for the r...
