Quality Analysis of Autologous Platelet-Rich Plasmapheresis
AbstractTo summarized the technology of autologous platelet-rich plasmapheresis and analyzed the product quality, in order to provide safe and effective product guarantee service for clinical treatment. Technical parameters were set according to patient age, weight, height, and preoperative routine blood indices. Autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) was collected, and the product quality and adverse reactions of patients were statistically analyzed. Autologous PRP had platelet (PLT), white blood cell (WBC), and red blood cell (RBC) counts of (1250.26  ± 435.88) × 109/L, (1.19  ± 1.95) × 109/L, and (0.0...

Anti-D Alloimmunization After RhD Positive Red Cell Transfusion to Selected RhD Negative Patients
AbstractTransfusion of RhD positive red cells to RhD negative individuals is not routine transfusion practice for the fear of alloimmunization. Aim of this study was to prospectively evaluate rate of alloimmunization after transfusion of RhD positive red cells in RhD negative individuals and to assess delay in transfusion due to decision making. This was a prospective, observational study conducted from 2014 to 2018. All patients were followed up for a period of three months, at 3, 14, 45 and 90  days with antibody screening. In addition, patients who were immunosuppressed and alloimmunized were followed up at 6 months a...

Alpha-1-Antitrypsin Experience for Steroid-Resistant Acute Graft-Versus-Host Disease
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of alpha-1-antitrypsin (AAT). In the study, the results of five SR-aGVHD patients received AAT evaluated. Complete response was seen 2 of four patients with gastrointestinal (GI) aGVHD, partial response in one GI and one liver aGVHD. The overall response rate was 80%. AAT is an effective and safe treatment option in SR-aGVHD. (Source: Indian Journal of Hematology and Blood Transfusion)

Frequency of Nucleophosmin 1 Expression by Immunohistochemistry in Acute Myeloid Leukemia
This study was conducted to evaluate the frequency of aberrant cytoplasmic nucleophosmin 1 expression in leukemic blast cells on formalin fixed bone marrow trephine biopsy (BMB) sections and also to correlate this data with the reference molecular method (reverse transcriptase –polymerase chain reaction; RT-PCR and gene sequencing), where available. Immunostains were performed using mouse anti-NPM1 monoclonal antibody on 71 paraffin embedded bone marrow biopsies (BMB) of patients with AML of any French-American-British (FAB) subtype. Results of immunohistochemistry (IHC ) were then compared with the reference molecular m...

Study of Breast Cancer Resistance Protein ABCG2 C421A Single Nucleotide Polymorphism RS2231142 in Multiple Myeloma
AbstractBreast cancer resistance protein is an adenosine triphosphate-binding cassette (ABC) transporter that belongs to the G-superfamily. It acts as an efflux pump that is crucial for cell protection against toxic compounds and xenobiotics such as procarcinogens. An individual ’s risk of developing carcinoma depends on genetic variations like single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that may cause alteration in gene expression and/or reductions in their activities. These changes may influence blood cells’ exposure to toxic compounds and increase the susceptibility to mu ltiple myeloma (MM). Our study aimed at investiga...

Elevated Bax/Bcl-2 Ratio: A Cytotoxic Mode of Action of Kermanian Propolis Against an Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Cell Line, NALM-6
AbstractCurrently, alternative cancer remedies, especially herbal-derived medicines, have attracted great interest. Propolis, a honeybee-produced naturopathic formulation, is an available, affordable, and safe example of such remedies with different content according to its geographic location. Findings regarding the protective properties of this resinous substance across numerous pathological conditions are promising. Although the anti-tumor effects of propolis from different origins have been explored to some degree, yet there is no study on the effects of Kermanian propolis in the treatment of hematologic malignancies. ...

SARS-CoV-2 Seroprevalence Among Whole Blood Donors During First Wave of Covid-19 Pandemic in India
This study also analysed the mean neutralizing capacity of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies among 97 blood donors which was 71.9 (SD:  + 21.03, range 15.5 to 97.3). Donor samples with SARS-CoV-2 IgG S/Co >  9.5 had significantly higher neutralising capacity (>  68%) when compared with donor samples of S/Co <  9.5 (p value 0.000). Real-time seroprevalence studies will help to know the herd immunityamong the blood donors which will assist in knowing the Covid-19 transmission dynamics, distribution of immunity levels at a particular point in time, immunity gaps, development of novel therapeutics and prioritize the...

Role of Automated Volume, Conductivity and Scatter (VCS) Parameters of Neutrophils as Indicators of Sepsis
This study was done to evaluate the role of automated volume, conductivity and scatter (VCS) parameters of neutrophils as indicators of sepsis and its differentiation from other inflammatory disorders. In this cross-sectional study, 225 patients with culture proven or with clinical evidence of sepsis were included along with an equal number of healthy controls. In addition, 138 patients with non-infective inflammatory conditions-acute pancreatitis (50), burns (45) and acute myocardial infarction (43) were also included. Complete blood count was done on LH750 automated hematology analyser (Beckman Coulter). VCS data; mean n...

Predicting Significant Hyperbilirubinemia in ABO Incompatibility: Is Cord Direct Antiglobulin Test Useful?
AbstractTo study the prevalence of direct antiglobulin test (DAT) positivity and outcomes in babies with ABO incompatibility and the role of DAT in predicting need for phototherapy. This was an analytical retrospective cohort study conducted in a tertiary care hospital in South India. DAT was performed routinely in cord blood of all neonates born to O positive mothers. The case records of neonates  ≥ 35 weeks of gestation and birth weight >  2000 gm with ABO setting born between January 2019 and December 2020 were reviewed and outcomes were analyzed. Among 2484 live births, there were 426 eligible ABO incomp...
