Diagnosis and Management of Food Allergy
Food allergy is an immune-mediated disease and must be differentiated from other adverse effects related to food that are non –immune mediated. Symptoms of immunoglobulin (Ig) E–mediated allergy can range from mild to severe, and life-threatening anaphylaxis may occur. Current recommended strategies for diagnosis include the use of skin prick tests, allergen-specific serum IgE, and/or oral food challenges. Management e ntails allergen avoidance and appropriate treatment of allergic reactions should accidental ingestions occur. Treatment approaches under investigation include immunotherapy as well as biologics and novel...

New Treatments for Asthma
Asthma is a complex, heterogeneous chronic airway disease with high prevalence of uncontrolled disease. New therapies, including biologics, are now available to treat T2 high asthma. Treatment of T2 low asthma remains a challenge. Asthma guidelines need be to updated to incorporate new therapeutics. (Source: Immunology and Allergy Clinics of North America)

Pediatric Allergy and Immunology Revisited
COVID-19 changed a great many things, but not the basic standards of care for atopic and immunologic diseases. I was asked, therefore, if it would be appropriate to reprint the Pediatric Clinics of North America on allergies and immune deficiencies in children. It seems an ideal time to revisit these advances and to look to the future. We have treated less atopy during the pandemic, and we have had to very cautiously continue care for immune-deficient children. I hope we are now at a place to resume our previous investigations into advancing opportunities for children with atopy and immune deficiencies and dysregulations. ...

Mimics of Dermatitis
Dermatitis is a common condition frequently encountered by dermatologists. The diagnosis of dermatitis can be challenging because this condition is often multifactorial, and many skin diseases that can mimic dermatitis should be considered in the differential diagnosis. It is important to recognize and be familiar with these conditions because some of them can represent signs of systemic disease or malignancies and misdiagnosis can lead to mismanagement and adverse outcomes for the patient. Food Allergy Evaluation for Dermatologic Disorders
Food allergy evaluation for dermatologic disorders is warranted when Type 1 allergy is suspected, and includes skin prick testing (SPT) or measurement of specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels. The utility of these tests for identifying triggers is improved with clinical correlation, especially for contact urticaria, and protein contact dermatitis, which are mixed mechanism diseases. In atopic dermatitis (AD), patients are at risk for development of food allergy, and screening with SPT or IgE may be considered in severe AD, especially to guide early food introduction. Management of food-related AD exacerbations should focu...

Modification of the Personal Environment as Treatment: Irritant and Allergic Dermatitis and Contact Urticaria
“Skin Allergy” is a plain language term that is patient-centric. Patients with dermatitis may suffer tremendous personal and occupational burden; they often question the role of environmental allergens as a cause of their symptoms. Our answers are complicated! The labels of atopic dermatitis, al lergic contact dermatitis, and contact urticaria are not terribly useful to patients when they try to understand the role of allergy in their symptoms. This issue intentionally avoids the use of the terms “atopic” and “allergic contact” dermatitis in article titles, as these entities frequen tly overlap. (Source: Immuno...
