Study of Deiodinase Type 2 Polymorphisms in Graves ’ Disease and Ophthalmopathy in a Swedish Population
Conclusions: Rs225011 in DIO2 was weakly associated with GD. The mechanism behind this association requires further study. None of the investigated common SNPs in DIO2 was significantly associated with GO, fT3, fT4, TRAb, or TPOAb in GD patients.Eur Thyroid J (Source: European Thyroid Journal)

Well-Differentiated Liposarcoma Localized to the Thyroid Gland
We present a case of a 49-year-old man who presented with a thyroid mass that was found to be a well-differentiated liposarcoma and was treated surgically with no adjuvant therapy other than close surveillance with clinical examination and MRI scans. On his most recent clinical visit, 9 months after surgery, there was no clinical or radiologic evidence of recurrence and the patient is doing well with good speech and swallow functions and no new symptoms. We also summarize all the cases of this rare pathology presented thus far to the best of our knowledge.Eur Thyroid J (Source: European Thyroid Journal)

2018 European Thyroid Association (ETA) Guidelines on the Diagnosis and Management of Central Hypothyroidism
Conclusions: Despite the lack of randomized controlled clinical trials, the experts provide 34 recommendations supported by variable levels of strength that should improve the quality of life of the affected patients and reduce the metabolic and hormonal consequences of inadequate management.Eur Thyroid J (Source: European Thyroid Journal)

Thyroid Hemiagenesis in a Thyroiditis Prone Mouse Strain
Conclusions: Unlike hypothyroidism associated with hemiagenesis in transcription factor knockout mice, hemiagenesis in euthyroid NOD.H2h4 mice occurs spontaneously and is phenotypically similar to that occasionally observed in humans.Eur Thyroid J (Source: European Thyroid Journal)

Evaluation of the Role of < b > < i > BRAF < /i > < /b > V600E Somatic Mutation on Papillary Thyroid Cancer Disease Persistence: A Prospective Study
Conclusions: The somaticBRAFV600E mutation does not associate with a worse prognosis in low risk PTC and, in our settings, may not be considered an independent risk factor for disease persistence.Eur Thyroid J (Source: European Thyroid Journal)

Levothyroxine/Liothyronine Combination Therapy and Quality of Life: Is It All about Weight Loss?
Conclusion: Our study on hypothyroid patients switched from L-T4 monotherapy to L-T4/L-T3 combination therapy showed a substantial improvement in QoL measured by the ThyPRO-39. This improvement could not be explained by weight loss.Eur Thyroid J (Source: European Thyroid Journal)

Are Papillary Thyroid Carcinomas That Are Candidates for Active Surveillance in Fact Classical Microcarcinomas Restricted to the Gland?
Conclusion: Findings that define an intermediate risk of recurrence and favor total thyroidectomy were observed in 31.5% of patients with PTC who are candidates for AS.Eur Thyroid J (Source: European Thyroid Journal)

The Krakow Declaration on Iodine: Tasks and Responsibilities for Prevention Programs Targeting Iodine Deficiency Disorders
On April 18, 2018 the EUthyroid consortium released the Krakow Declaration on Iodine in response to the increasing concern about the deteriorating commitment of policymakers to address public health strategies against iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) in the European populations. Regulators and policymakers should harmonize obligatory Universal Salt Iodization to ensure free trade of fortified foodstuffs in Europe. Similarly, iodized animal feed requires regulatory approval to ensure free trade within the EU. National governments and public health authorities have to perform harmonized monitoring and evaluation of fortific...

Low-Dose Radioiodine Ablation in Patients with Low-Risk Differentiated Thyroid Cancer
Conclusions: A low dose of 131-I was sufficient for reaching a complete response at 6 –12 months of follow-up in the majority of patients with LRDTC. Tumour size and pAntiTgAb variables were related to therapeutic response.Eur Thyroid J (Source: European Thyroid Journal)

Can Suspicious Ultrasound Features Predict BRAFV600E Status in Papillary Thyroid Cancer?
Conclusion: The presence of multiple suspicious US findings of thyroid nodules can predict the BRAFV600E mutation status of papillary thyroid cancer nodules. The highest accuracy overall (93.2%) was achieved by combining calcification, irregular margins, and hypoechogenicity with extrathyroidal extension and LN metastasis. Future multi-institutional studies are warranted to help surgeons with risk stratification and operative planning for patients with papillary thyroid cancer.Eur Thyroid J (Source: European Thyroid Journal)

Thyroid Gland < sup > 18 < /sup > F-FDG Uptake in Neurofibromatosis Type 1
Conclusion: Even though NF1 patients did not show an increased risk of thyroid incidentaloma on PET/CT compared to previous studies on non-thyroid cancer patients, the incidence shows that awareness of possible thyroid disease is important.Eur Thyroid J (Source: European Thyroid Journal)
