Performance of ATA Risk Stratification Systems, Response to Therapy, and Outcome in an Indian Cohort of Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma Patients: A Retrospective Study
Conclusion: This study found that both ATA RSS-2009 and ATA RTR-2015 are reliable in predicting outcome in DTC patients after initial treatment. However, the response to initial therapy at 1 year predicted outcome more accurately than the initial risk status.Eur Thyroid J (Source: European Thyroid Journal)

A Case of Unilateral Dermopathy Possibly Related to Graves ’ Disease
Discussion: The observation of a patient with a monolateral dermopathy somehow reports to the Kriss ’ hypothesis, especially in view of the patient’s habit of sleeping on the same side as dermopathy was present. Of course, this does not represent a proof that the Kriss’ hypothesis is correct, but it carries an element in favour of it. The fact that GO was bilateral is somehow against it, but does not exclude this possibility.Eur Thyroid J (Source: European Thyroid Journal)

Orbital Radioiodine Uptake on Scintigraphy in a Patient with Thyroid Cancer
Discussion: Ocular and orbital metastases from thyroid cancer, as well as some non-neoplastic disorders or contamination, are possible causes for131I uptake in the orbital region in scintigraphy. Conjunctival inclusion cyst is a condition associated with incidental131I uptake that had not been reported before and should be ruled out as a non-metastatic cause of orbital radioiodine uptake in patients with PTC.Eur Thyroid J (Source: European Thyroid Journal)

The Colorful Diversity of Thyroid Hormone Metabolites
Since the discovery of L-thyroxine, the main secretory product of the thyroid gland, and its major metabolite T3, which exerts the majority of thyroid hormone action via ligand-dependent modulation of the function of T3 receptors in nuclei, mitochondria, and other subcellular compartments, various other T4-derived endogenous metabolites have been identified in blood and tissues of humans, animals, and early protochordates. This review addresses major historical milestones and experimental findings resulting in the discovery of the key enzymes of thyroid hormone metabolism, the three selenoprotein deiodinases, as well as th...

Prevalence of Undiagnosed Hypothyroidism in Europe: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: The current evidence suggests that a considerable proportion of the European population has hypothyroidism, particularly subclinical hypothyroidism, which is undiagnosed. This issue deserves further investigation because of possible deleterious consequences for public health.Eur Thyroid J (Source: European Thyroid Journal)

Sex-Dependent Association between Weight Change and Thyroid Dysfunction: Population-Level Analysis Using the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
Conclusions: This study highlights the necessity of performing thyroid function testing in women who complain of weight loss, but such testing may be less vital in women with weight gain or men with any changes in weight.Eur Thyroid J (Source: European Thyroid Journal)

The Role of Calcitonin in Predicting the Extent of Surgery in Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma: A Nationwide Population-Based Study in Norway
Conclusions: Basal calcitonin cannot predict the need for prophylactic lateral lymph node dissection in patients with MTC. Further prospective, randomized studies are warranted.Eur Thyroid J (Source: European Thyroid Journal)

Detecting True Change in the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, SF-36, and Hypothyroid Score when Monitoring Patients with Subclinical Hypothyroidism
Conclusion: Score differences of almost 100% and higher were required to support a true change in mood (HADS) and hypothyroid symptom scores in untreated SCH patients. For quality of life a true change was detected at a 20% difference in SF-36 scores. The hypothyroid score and HADS questionnaire do not seem useful for the evaluation of individuals.Eur Thyroid J (Source: European Thyroid Journal)

Insulin Sensitivity and Beta-Cell Function in Graves ’ Disease and Their Changes with the Carbimazole-Induced Euthyroid State
Conclusions: Abnormal glucose tolerance is a significant metabolic consequence in patients with Graves ’ disease. Decreased beta-cell function was observed among those with abnormal glucose tolerance and it improved during follow-up. In a proportion of patients, abnormal glucose tolerance persisted after 3 months, emphasizing the need for continued follow-up.Eur Thyroid J (Source: European Thyroid Journal)

Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor Therapy in Locally Advanced Differentiated Thyroid Cancer: A Case Report
A 73-year-old female presenting with haemoptysis and dyspnoea was found to have a locally advanced left thyroid mass and vocal cord palsy. A CT scan of the neck and thorax and endoscopy demonstrated invasion into the tracheal lumen. Histopathology of the intraluminal tracheal mass confirmed a papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). The tumour was deemed unresectable due to local extent and patient comorbidities. TKI therapy with lenvatinib was used for 14 months. On serial scanning, a marked reduction in tumour volume from 31 × 59 × 32 mm to 17 × 28 × 22 mm was noted. This subsequently allowed a successful surgical resection w...
