The effects of adolescent laparoscopic adjustable gastric band and sleeve gastrectomy on markers of bone health and bone turnover
Summary25 ‐hydroxy vitamin D (25 OHD) deficiency and secondary hyperparathyroidism have been seen after metabolic and bariatric surgery, but data are lacking on the bone health outcomes of adolescent sleeve gastrectomy (SG). The purpose of this study was to examine bone‐related nutrition after SG, compare d to laparoscopic adjustable gastric band (LAGB), and trend bone turnover markers following SG. This is an observational study of 197 adolescents who underwent LAGB (n = 98) or SG (n = 99). Bone health labs were collected at baseline and 6 and/or 12 months after LAGB or SG, with additional analysi s of bone turnover...

Continuous glucose monitoring in patients with remission of type 2 diabetes after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy without or with duodenojejunal bypass
SummaryBariatric surgery is associated with a high remission rate of type 2 diabetes mellitus. However, it is unclear whether patients showing remission of diabetes actually have normal blood glucose levels throughout the day. We therefore performed continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in 15 ambulatory patients showing remission of diabetes after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) without or with duodenojejunal bypass (DJB) at the time of diabetic remission (12.9 ± 1.8 months after bariatric surgery). The definition of remission of diabetes was based on the American Diabetes Association criteria. The mean, SD, and coe...

“I am terrified of something happening to me” The lived experience of people with obesity during the COVID‐19 pandemic
SummaryObesity is emerging as a risk factor for COVID ‐19 disease severity. The impact of the pandemic and knowledge of obesity as a risk factor on the lived experience of people with obesity is not fully understood. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of the COVID‐19 pandemic on people living with severe obesity (BMI ≥35 kg/m2), currently engaged in multi ‐modal treatment. The primary objectives were to examine the impact of the pandemic on their lived experience from a treatment and psychosocial standpoint and additionally explore their awareness of obesity as a risk factor for COVID‐19 diseas...

Bariatric surgery during the evolution of fatty liver –A randomized clinical trial comparing gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy based on transient elastography
SummaryNonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is closely related to patients with obesity. For patients with NAFLD, bariatric surgery is the best treatment. However, the best technique to patient with severe NAFLD is still unknown. Currently available, the imaging methods for assessing and monitoring NAFLD are of limited use for diagnosing. In contrast, compared with liver biopsy and transient hepatic elastography (THE) has shown good accuracy in individuals with obesity. To prospectively compare the evolution of THE parameters of NAFLD right after the procedures: gastric bypass vs sleeve gastrectomy. Patients with obesi...
