Impact of Fermentation on the Phytochemical Profile and Bioactivity Characteristics of Aqueous Matricaria recutita L. Root Extracts
Chem Biodivers. 2024 Apr 2:e202400159. doi: 10.1002/cbdv.202400159. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWhile the flowers of Matricaria recutita L., German chamomile, are widely used for medicinal and cosmetic purposes, little is known about its roots, which are used in complementary medicine for the preparation of aqueous fermented extracts for the treatment of cramps and anxiety. To broaden the understanding of the active principles involved, a model fermentation approach was developed and fermentates were compared to commercially manufactured tinctures. Coumarins and hydroxycinnamates were among the major secondary metabolite...

Physicochemical Evaluation and Pharmacological Screening of Fernando Adenophylla Steenis Fruits
Chem Biodivers. 2024 Apr 2:e202301724. doi: 10.1002/cbdv.202301724. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe current study aimed to evaluate the physicochemical properties of Fernandoa adenophylla. Powder studies were carried out to estimate the quantitative physicochemical characteristics of the crude drug, including moisture content, ash content, and extractive values. Using a Soxhlet apparatus and different analytical grade solvents, 3 sample extracts of a crude drug were made. To evaluate the potentially toxic nature, an acute oral toxicity study was performed as per OECD guideline no. 423. Sample extracts were tested and ana...

New Hydroxyphenylacetic Acids and α-Pyrone Derivative from the Deep-Sea Cold Seep Sediment-Derived Fungus Penicillium corylophilum CS-682
Chem Biodivers. 2024 Mar 27:e202400584. doi: 10.1002/cbdv.202400584. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTwo pairs of new enantiomeric hydroxyphenylacetic acid derivatives, (±)-corylophenols A and B ((±)-1 and (±)-2), a new α-pyrone analogue, corylopyrone A (3), and six andrastin-type meroterpenoids (4-9) were isolated and identified from the deep-sea cold-seep sediment-derived fungus Penicillium corylophilum CS-682. Their structures and stereo configurations were determined by detailed spectroscopic analysis of NMR and MS data, chiral HPLC analysis, J-based configuration analysis, and quantum chemical calculations of ECD, s...

Taxodin A, a Cytotoxic C30 Terpenoid from Taxodium mucronatum with a Unique Skeleton
Chem Biodivers. 2024 Mar 28:e202400648. doi: 10.1002/cbdv.202400648. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTaxodin A (1), a unique C30 terpenoid featuring an unprecedented skeleton composed of an abietane-type diterpene and a menthane-type monoterpene, was obtained from the leaves and branches of Taxodium mucronatum. The structure and absolute configuration of compound 1 was unequivocally established by the combination of extensive spectroscopic analyses and X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis. Compound 1 exhibited potent cytotoxic activities against A549, SMMC-7721, MDA-MB-231, and SW480 cell lines with IC50 values of 15.35...

A Review on traditional uses, phytochemistry, pharmacology and clinical application of Tinospora sinensis (Lour.) Merr
Chem Biodivers. 2024 Mar 28:e202302037. doi: 10.1002/cbdv.202302037. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTinospora sinensis (T. sinensis), whose Tibetan name is "Lezhe", as a traditional medicine, is widely distributed in China, India and Sri Lanka. It is used for the treatment of rheumatic arthralgia, sciatica, lumbar muscle strain and bruises. Research over the previous decades indicated that T. sinensis mainly contains terpenes, lignans, alkaloids, phenol glycosides and other chemical components. A wide range of pharmacologic activities such as anti-inflammatory, analgesic, immunosuppressive, anti-aging, anti-radiation, anti-...

Production of Aromatic Hydrocarbons from Co-hydropyrolysis of Biomass Components and HDPE with Application of Modified HZSM-5 Catalyst
Chem Biodivers. 2024 Mar 28:e202400150. doi: 10.1002/cbdv.202400150. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExperiments were conducted in this study on the co-hydropyrolysis of three components of biomass (cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin) and HDPE by using SR-Pd/Trap-HZ-5 as catalyst. To control the variable, we use the same experiment conditions in co-hydropyrolysis: Si/Al ratio of 50, Pd load 1%, catalyst to reactant ratio of 1:10, 1 MPa, 400°C, reaction time 1 h. Use XRD, TEM, BET, and NH3-TPD to confirm catalyst successful synthesis; use pine sawdust (PW) co-hydropyrolysis with HDPE to analyse catalytic activity; and use ...
