Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles from discarded shells of velvet tamarind (Dialium cochinchinense) and their antimicrobial synergistic potentials and biofilm inhibition properties
In this study, discarded shell of velvet tamarind fruit is explored as a potent reducing agent for biogenic synthesis of silver nanoparticles (VeV-AgNPs). Silver nanoparticles were formed in minutes under sunlight exposure, which was considerably fast compared to under ambient conditions. The optical, structural and morphological studies revealed that the nanoparticle colloidal solution consisted of particles with quasi-spherical and rodlike morphologies. To investigate antimicrobial properties, eight microorganisms were exposed to the VeV-AgNPs. The results indicated that VeV-AgNPs had enhanced antimicrobial activity, wit...

Antibacterial and antioxidant activity of gold and silver nanoparticles in dextran-polyacrylamide copolymers
Biometals. 2023 Aug 31. doi: 10.1007/s10534-023-00532-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSearch for new antimicrobial agents is of great significance due to the issue of antimicrobial resistance, which nowadays has become more important than many diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the toxicity and biological effects of a dextran-graft-polyacrylamide (D-PAA) polymer-nanocarrier with/without silver or gold nanoparticles (AgNPs/D-PAA and AuNPs/D-PAA, respectively) to analyze their potential to replace or supplement conventional antibiotic therapy. The toxicity of nanocomplexes against eukaryotic cells was assessed ...

In vitro cadmium exposure induces structural damage and endothelial dysfunction in female rat aorta
Biometals. 2023 Aug 31. doi: 10.1007/s10534-023-00526-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCadmium is a heavy metal that is widespread in the environment and has been described as a metalloestrogen and a cardiovascular risk factor. Experimental studies conducted in male animals have shown that cadmium exposure induces vascular dysfunction, which could lead to vasculopathies caused by this metal. However, it is necessary to investigate the vascular effects of cadmium in female rats to understand its potential sex-dependent impact on the cardiovascular system. While its effects on male rats have been studied, cadmium may act dif...
