Effect of exposures to multiple metals on blood pressure and hypertension in the elderly: a community-based study
According to this study, Pb and Cd were correlated with BP and HTN positively, and there was a certain joint effect. To some extent, our findings provide clues for the prevention of hypertension in the elderly.PMID:37792258 | DOI:10.1007/s10534-023-00543-4 (Source: Biometals)

Nitric oxide and AMF-mediated regulation of soil enzymes activities, cysteine-H < sub > 2 < /sub > S system and thiol metabolites in mitigating chromium (Cr (VI)) toxicity in pigeonpea genotypes
Biometals. 2023 Oct 4. doi: 10.1007/s10534-023-00540-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCr (VI) hampers plant growth and yield by reducing essential nutrient uptake as it competes for phosphate and sulfate transporters. Nitric oxide (NO) and mycorrhization play important roles in mitigating Cr (VI) toxicity. Present study aimed to compare the potential of AMF (Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi)-Rhizoglomus intraradices and NO (0.25 mM) in alleviating Cr (VI) stress (0, 10 and 20 mg/kg) in two differentially tolerant pigeonpea genotypes (Pusa 2001 and AL 201). Cr (VI) toxicity reduced growth, mycorrhizal colonization, nutrient upt...

Antibacterial effects of quercetagetin are significantly enhanced upon conjugation with chitosan engineered copper oxide nanoparticles
In this study, Chitosan copper oxide nanoparticles (CHI-CuO) were synthesized and were further loaded with Quercetagetin (QTG) to achieve the desired (CHI-CuO-QTG). Size distribution, zeta potential and morphological analysis were accomplished. Next, the developed CHI-CuO-QTG was assessed for synergistic antibacterial properties, as well as cytotoxic attributes. Bactericidal assays revealed that CHI-CuO conjugation showed remarkable effects and enhanced QTG effects against a range of Gram + ve and Gram - ve bacteria. The MIC50 of QTG against S. pyogenes was 107 µg/mL while CHI-CuO-QTG reduced it to 9 µg/mL. Similar resul...
