Appl Radiat Isot. 2024 Feb 24;207:111250. doi: 10.1016/j.apradiso.2024.111250. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the derived concentration guideline levels for unrestricted site reuse the Korea research reactor unit 1 and 2. Distribution coefficients for Co-60 and Sr-90 were derived, and site-specific values of the KRR soil were applied for the DCGLs for the seven target nuclide. The distribution coefficients of Co-60 and Sr-90 were 6,128 and 86.0 mL/g. The DCGLs derived from the dose by age group were 0.053 Bq/g for Co-60 and 45.0 Bq/g for H-3.PMID:38457856 | DOI:10.1016/j.apradiso.202...

Excitation functions for fast neutron induced reactions on iron and lead
Appl Radiat Isot. 2024 Mar 5;207:111274. doi: 10.1016/j.apradiso.2024.111274. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCross sections of the 54Fe(n,p)54Mn, 54Fe(n,α)51Cr, 56Fe(n,p)56Mn and 204Pb (n,2n)203Pb reactions induced by D-T neutrons were obtained with activation method and γ-ray spectrometry technique. Experimental values measured in this work are consistent with most of the previous literature data. These reactions cross sections were theoretically calculated by using the TALYS-1.96 and EMPIRE-3.2.3 codes from threshold up to 20 MeV, and significant discrepancies were found between calculated results and experiment data. Simulation of defect detection for the buried petroleum pipe by the X-ray backscatter imaging
Appl Radiat Isot. 2024 Mar 2;207:111278. doi: 10.1016/j.apradiso.2024.111278. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEnsuring the integrity, safety, and compliance of oil pipelines is crucial for operators. Two significant factors affecting pipeline integrity are metal loss due to corrosion or air gouging and the presence of cracks. This paper introduces an X-ray backscatter nondestructive testing model on a smart pig(an intelligent robot) for internal inspection of petroleum pipelines. The paper investigates the X-ray source and detection system, essential components of the backscatter imaging technology, to provide technical guid...

Characterization of flux distribution in the pool of the RMC SLOWPOKE-2
Appl Radiat Isot. 2024 Feb 27;207:111262. doi: 10.1016/j.apradiso.2024.111262. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe neutron flux distribution within the pool of the SLOWPOKE-2 reactor at the RMC has been characterized using neutron activation measurements as well as MCNP simulations. Westcott equivalent thermal neutron flux values were calculated from measured activities of solutions of Co, Au, and Cd-shielded Au at several reactor flux settings and compared to tabulated fluxes from MCNP simulations. Good agreement was found between the simulated and experimental thermal flux values, while larger uncertainties were highlighte...

Use of air things radon detector in liquid samples (serum and urine)
This study involved the assessment of 222Rn concentrations in liquid samples (namely serum and urine) obtained from individuals who were smokers and non-smokers across five distinct age groups in the Najaf Governorate of Iraq. The measurements were conducted using a portable digital Air Things device commonly employed for detecting radon gas in residential environments. This device was placed in a container that is placed in liquid samples, which makes it work to capture the existing radon. The mean value of radon concentrations in serum and urine samples for smokers was 5.64 ± 2.80 Bq/m3 and 3.56 ± 2.31 Bq/m3, respectiv...
