Beta irradiation-induced thermoluminescence: Glow curve analysis and kinetic parameters in combustion-synthesized undoped Ca < sub > 4 < /sub > YO(BO < sub > 3 < /sub > ) < sub > 3 < /sub >
This study examines the thermoluminescent (TL) properties of undoped Ca4YO(BO3)3 phosphor, focusing on how it behaves under a variety of experimental conditions. The IRSL-TL 565 nm was chosen as the appropriate detection filter among various optical detection filter combinations. During the preheating trials conducted at a rate of 2 °C/s, the TL peak exhibited increased intensity, particularly around 200 °C. The experimental outcomes demonstrated a reliable linear relationship (R2 = 0.996 and b = 1.015) in the dose response of undoped preheated Ca4YO(BO3)3 within the range of 1-200 Gy. The investigation encompasses a ran...

Independent isomeric yield ratios of fission products in the epi-cadmium neutron induced fission of < sup > 233 < /sup > U
Appl Radiat Isot. 2024 Mar 20;208:111304. doi: 10.1016/j.apradiso.2024.111304. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe independent isomeric yield ratios (IR) of 128,130,132Sb, 131,133Te, 132,134,136I, 135Xe and 138Cs have been measured in the epi-cadmium neutron induced fission of 233U by using an off-line gamma-ray spectrometric technique. The average neutron energy of the epi-cadmium reactor neutron spectrum is 1.9 MeV. The root mean square fragment angular momenta (JRMS) were deduced from the IR values by using spin dependent statistical model analysis. The IR and JRMS values of considered fission products in the epi-cadmium ...

Comparative study of the impact of interpad nominal length on the onset of the charge multiplication in standard segmented LGAD with 2 p-stops and bias ring as isolated structures
We present an investigation of the interpad region (IP) in the Ultra-Fast Silicon Detector (UFSD) Type 10, utilizing a femtosecond laser and the transient current technique (TCT). We elucidate the isolation structure and measure the IP distance between pads, comparing it to the nominal value provided by the vendor. A comparison of sensors with identical layouts but different nominal IP distances (49 μm vs. 61 μm) and different processing parameters revealed their significant different charge collection properties in the IP.PMID:38518502 | DOI:10.1016/j.apradiso.2024.111288 (Source: Applied Radiation and Isotopes)

Study on induced radioactivity and individual dose evaluation in Gantry room for Varian ProBeam Proton Therapy System
This study focuses on systematically investigating the induced radioactivity in the gantry room during pencil beam scanning, utilizing both experimental measurements and Monte Carlo simulations. Results indicate that patients are the primary source of induced radioactivity, predominantly producing radionuclides such as 11C, 13N, and 15O. Long-term irradiation primarily generates radionuclides like 22Na, 24Na, and 54Mn etc. Additionally, this study estimates the individual doses received by medical workers in the gantry room, the irradiation dose for patient escorts, and the additional dose to patients from residual radiati...

Half-life determination of < sup > 215 < /sup > At and < sup > 221 < /sup > Ra with high-purity radioactive ion beams
Appl Radiat Isot. 2024 Mar 13;208:111289. doi: 10.1016/j.apradiso.2024.111289. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAt CERN-ISOLDE, high-purity radioactive ion beams of 219Fr and 221RaF were investigated with α-decay spectroscopy at the CRIS and ASET experiments in the course of three different experimental campaigns. The half-life of 215At, α-decay daughter of 219Fr, is measured to be 36.3(3)[9]μs, and that of 221Ra was determined to be 26.2(1)[6]s, both of which are well in line with the trends in this region of the nuclear landscape but at odds with some of the reported literature.PMID:38508063 | DOI:10.1016/j.apradiso.2024...

Yield estimation of radionuclides from < sup > 6,7 < /sup > Li-induced reactions: A comparative analysis for < sup > 97,95 < /sup > Ru
Appl Radiat Isot. 2024 Mar 12;208:111287. doi: 10.1016/j.apradiso.2024.111287. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe article reports the production yields of the medically relevant Ru radionuclides and other co-produced radionuclides from 6,7Li-induced reactions on 93Nb target within the 20-45 MeV energy range. The residues were measured employing the activation technique followed by the offline γ-spectroscopy. Statistical model calculations using EMPIRE3.2.2 code are employed to assess the optimized nuclear model parameters and production mechanisms of the residues. As an outcome, new data from 6Li reaction suggests 9720 MBq...

A pilot study of diabetes effects on radiation attenuation characteristics of tibia and femur of rats
This study aimed to investigate the effect of diabetes on radiation attenuation parameters of the femur and tibia of rats using Monte Carlo Simulations. First, control and diabetic rats were identified and tibias and femurs were removed. Then, the elemental ratios of the bones obtained were calculated using EDS (Energy Dissipative X-ray Spectroscopy). Therefore, radiation permeability properties of control and diabetic bones were simulated by using the content ratios in the bones in MCNP6 (Monte Carlo N-Particle) and PHITS (Particle and Heavy Ion Transport code System) 3.22 and Stopping and Range of Ions in Matter (SRIM) s...

Production of < sup > 117m < /sup > Sn and < sup > 119m < /sup > Sn by photonuclear reactions on natural antimony
Appl Radiat Isot. 2024 Mar 7;208:111280. doi: 10.1016/j.apradiso.2024.111280. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNatural antimony targets were irradiated in a 60 MeV bremsstrahlung beam and gamma spectrometric measurements were performed. The goal was to establish the yield of 117mSn, a radionuclide with great potential for application in medicine. Considering that 117mSn is predominantly produced through a photonuclear reaction in which an charged particle is emitted (121Sb(γ,p3n)), the yield of this tin isotope is much lower than the yields of several antimony isotopes produced in (γ,xn) reactions. It has been estimated tha...
