Potential production of Ac-225 at Egyptian second research reactor (ETRR-2) through neutron induced transmutation of Ra-226
Appl Radiat Isot. 2024 Mar;205:111176. doi: 10.1016/j.apradiso.2024.111176. Epub 2024 Jan 8.ABSTRACTA considerable focus has been paid to the production of 225Ac due to its effective therapeutic action in alpha-targeted radiotherapy. Considering the future global clinical demand, it is necessary to increase the production capacity of 225Ac. A feasibility study was conducted to investigate the production of 225Ac through neutron induced transmutation of 226Ra at the Egyptian Second Research Reactor (ETRR-2) using the MCNPX code. The calculations were carried out for 1 g of 226Ra target exposed to the highest neutron flux in...

Fission cross-section measurements for the < sup > 238 < /sup > U(n,f) < sup > 97m+g < /sup > Nb, < sup > 238 < /sup > U(n,f) < sup > 133g < /sup > Te and < sup > 238 < /sup > U(n,f) < sup > 130g < /sup > Sb reactions induced by D-T neutrons
In this study, we conducted measurements of the independent fission cross-sections of 238U(n, f)97m+gNb, 238U(n, f)133gTe reactions and the cumulative cross section of 238U(n, f)130gSb reactions induced by neutron at energies around 14 MeV, i.e., 14.1 ± 0.3, 14.5 ± 0.3 and 14.7 ± 0.3 MeV. The measurement results were obtained by the neutron activation method in combination with off-line γ-ray spectrometry techniques. The neutron flux was monitored on line by the accompanying α-particle from T(d, n)4He reaction, and the neutron energies were determined by the cross-section ratio of 90Zr(n, 2n)8+gZr to 93Nb(n, 2n)92mNb ...

A novel method for simultaneously measuring boronophenylalanine uptake in brain tumor cells and number of cells using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy
This study was designed to develop a novel method for simultaneously measuring the uptake of BPA by U87 and U251 cells (two brain tumor cell lines) and number of cells using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). The results revealed a linear correlation between phosphorus intensity and the numbers of U87 and U251 cells, with correlation coefficients (R2) of 0.9995 and 0.9994, respectively. High accuracy and reliability of phosphorus concentration standard curve were also found. Using this new method, we found that BPA had no significant effect on phosphorus concentration in either U87 or U251 c...

Appl Radiat Isot. 2024 Mar;205:111173. doi: 10.1016/j.apradiso.2024.111173. Epub 2024 Jan 3.ABSTRACTA 4πβ(PPC)-γ coincidence system has been made at KRISS based on a digital DAQ. 60Co sources were measured to verify the system. The maximum detection efficiency for beta particles was estimated to be 96.7 %. Massic activities for sample sources had 0.005 % of the sample variability error, which was well within the expanded standard uncertainty of 0.54 % (k = 2).PMID:38211394 | DOI:10.1016/j.apradiso.2024.111173 (Source: Applied Radiation and Isotopes)

Removal of U(VI) from acidic wastewater by persimmon tannin-functionalized chitosan
Appl Radiat Isot. 2024 Mar;205:111145. doi: 10.1016/j.apradiso.2023.111145. Epub 2023 Dec 13.ABSTRACTWith sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) as cross-linker, Persimmon tannin-chitosan microspheres (PT-CS) were synthesized by hydrothermal for removing U(VI) from acidic effluent. The batch experiments indicated that PT-CS adsorbed U(VI) most effectively at pH 1.5, the maximum adsorption capacity for PT-CS was 245 mg/g. Compared to pure CS dissolved at pH 3, PT-CS still maintain high stability at pH 1. Moreover, single system of common metal ions in rare earth wastewater only slightly affected the adsorption of uranium at pH 1.5,...

Intercomparison of neutron personal dose equivalent measured by thermoluminescence dosimeters
Appl Radiat Isot. 2024 Mar;205:111175. doi: 10.1016/j.apradiso.2024.111175. Epub 2024 Jan 5.ABSTRACTAn intercomparison of neutron personal dose equivalent measured by the Harshaw thermoluminescence neutron dosimeters (TLDs) between the National Institute of Metrology of China (NIM) and the Institute for Nuclear Science and Technology of Vietnam (INST) was performed. Three sets of TLDs (each set consisting of five TLDs) were prepared for each laboratory. Each set was then irradiated to the corresponding same nominal standard value of neutron personal dose equivalent, Hp(10)n-stdi, of 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 mSv, respectively at t...

Results from the two laboratories agree with recent data evaluations, except for gamma rays with low emission intensities. The decay schemes have been re-balanced based on the new results. Intercomparison and constancy check of brachytherapy well-type chambers as a means to improve the quality of measurements in Serbia
Appl Radiat Isot. 2023 Dec 23;205:111160. doi: 10.1016/j.apradiso.2023.111160. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSource strength measurements are of critical importance for brachytherapy and are often performed in hospitals using well-type chambers. Quality assurance and quality control procedures should be implemented, but that may prove difficult in some hospitals due to the lack of equipment or metrological support. A study was conducted to investigate the status of the measurement equipment in Serbian hospitals and to organize an intercomparison campaign using a hospital 192Ir source. All the hospitals were able to measure...
