Diversity assessment of a lesser known buffalo population from Central India and its comparative evaluation reveals presence of sufficient genetic variation and absence of selection
Anim Biotechnol. 2024 Jan 25:2305550. doi: 10.1080/10495398.2024.2305550. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPlanned breeding and conservation strategies for a lesser-known population require an assessment of complete genetic diversity and population structure analysis in addition to its morphometric characteristics. In the present study, a comparative analysis of the genetic structure of a rare buffalo population, namely Chhattisgarhi, was extensively studied using a panel of FAO-recommended microsatellite markers along with well-established breeds namely Murrah, Nili-Ravi, Gojri, Kalahandi, and Nagpuri. Mode shift analysis in...

Exposure to Imidacloprid under variable conditions disturbs the muscle fatty acid profile of a fresh water non target fish: < em > Labeo rohita < /em >
In conclusion, we are reporting that the exposure to sub lethal concentration of Imidacloprid disturb the muscle fatty acid composition of Labeo rohita that may affect its food quality. The effects were more pronounced under long term experimental conditions and were probably due to potentiating lipid peroxidation and disturbed fish metabolism upon Imidacloprid exposure.PMID:38258977 | DOI:10.1080/10495398.2024.2307020 (Source: Animal Biotechnology)

A comprehensive study on the longissius dorsi muscle of Ashdan yaks under different feeding regimes based on transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses
Anim Biotechnol. 2024 Jan 9:1-14. doi: 10.1080/10495398.2023.2294785. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTYak is an important dominant livestock species at high altitude, and the growth performance of yak has obvious differences under different feeding methods. This experiment was conducted to compare the effects of different feeding practices on growth performance and meat quality of yaks through combined transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses. In terms of yak growth performance, compared with traditional grazing, in-house feeding can significantly improve the average daily weight gain, carcass weight and net meat weight of ya...

Effects of selenium-enriched yeast dietary supplementation on egg quality, gut morphology and caecal microflora of laying hens
Anim Biotechnol. 2024 Jan 9:1-12. doi: 10.1080/10495398.2023.2258188. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSelenium (Se) is an essential micronutrient for humans and animals and is a powerful antioxidant that can promote reproductive and immune functions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of supplemental dietary selenium-enriched yeast (SeY) on egg quality, gut morphology and microflora in laying hens. In total, 100 HY-Line Brown laying hens (45-week old) were randomly allocated to two groups with 10 replicates and fed either a basal diet (without Se supplementation) or a basal diet containing 0.2 mg/kg Se in ...

Whole genome resequencing-based analysis of plateau adaptation in Meiren yak ( < em > Bos grunniens < /em > )
In this study, we aimed to explore the evolutionary history and population structure of the genetic resource of Meiren yak and to mine the characteristic genes of Meiren yak. We analysed a total of 93 yaks of eight yak breeds based on whole genome resequencing combined with population genomics and used θπ ratio and Fst method to screen the selected sites in the genome region. The results proved that Meiren yak can be used as a potential genetic resource in Gansu Province. The genes in Meiren yak with positive selection in selection signal analysis were subjected to the Gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes a...

Polymorphism in < em > IGFALS < /em > gene and its association with scrotal circumference in Hu lambs
In this study, the scrotal circumference of 1353 male Hu sheep at different stages of development was measured and descriptive statistical analysis was performed. The results showed that the coefficient of variation of scrotal circumference at each stage was greater than 10%, and its heritability were moderately to high, ranging from 0.318 to 0.719. We used PCR amplification and Sanger sequencing to scan the polymorphisms of the IGFALS gene, and performed association analysis with the circumference of the scrotum at different stages. We identified a synonymous mutation g.918 G > C in exon 1 of the IGFALS gene, and this ...

Determination of Raman spectrum under different culture conditions: preliminary research on bacterial fish pathogens
Anim Biotechnol. 2024 Jan 3:2299733. doi: 10.1080/10495398.2023.2299733. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe intensive labour and time required for conventional methods to identify bacterial fish pathogens have revealed the need to develop alternative methods. Raman spectroscopy has been used in the rapid optical identification of bacterial pathogens in recent years as an alternative method in microbiology. Strains of bacterial fish pathogens (Vibrio anguillarum, Lactococcus garvieae and Yersinia ruckeri) that often cause infectious diseases in fish were here identified and analyzed in terms of their biochemical structures i...
