Diagnostic precision of Truenat ® technique and co-relation of ALT levels with HBV-DNA viral load among HBsAg positive patients at a tertiary care hospital in Eastern Uttar Pradesh
CONCLUSION: Truenat®-PCR technique is a highly sensitive and can be performed with low resources for effective control of HBV infection. Evaluation of HBV-DNA levels and serum ALT levels showed a significant proportion of patient harbored ongoing viral replication and disease progression.PMID:38682056 | PMC:PMC11055448 | DOI:10.18502/ijm.v16i1.14882 (Source: Iranian Journal of Microbiology)

Clinical spectrum of fusariosis from a tertiary care center in India- a retrospective study
CONCLUSION: Traumatic injuries were the major cause of infections in the present study. As Fusarium is a virulent and highly resistant pathogen, an early suspicion and an appropriate diagnosis would lead to a better outcome in these patients.PMID:38682054 | PMC:PMC11055442 | DOI:10.18502/ijm.v16i1.14884 (Source: Iranian Journal of Microbiology)

Synergistic effects of < em > Bacillus coagulans < /em > and < em > Newcastle disease virus < /em > on human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell proliferation
CONCLUSION: It appears that utilizing oncolytic viruses (OV) and bacteria in conjunction with chemotherapy drugs could potentially aid in reducing the growth of colorectal cancer cells. However, further research is necessary, including animal studies, to confirm the efficacy of this treatment method.PMID:38682055 | PMC:PMC11055439 | DOI:10.18502/ijm.v16i1.14878 (Source: Iranian Journal of Microbiology)

Early detection of oral bacteria causing gum infections and dental caries in children
CONCLUSION: There were significant associations between dental/oral health and microbial community. Metabolism of the oral bacteria, including biofilm formation, can affect gums and develop dental plaques and hence dental caries, especially in children. Early diagnosis of dental caries in children via rapid, accurate molecular methods can increase the diagnostic capacity in clinical cases and therefore prevent periodontal infections in adulthood.PMID:38682052 | PMC:PMC11055450 | DOI:10.18502/ijm.v16i1.14870 (Source: Iranian Journal of Microbiology)

< em > In vitro < /em > evaluation of inhibitory effect of < em > Lactobacillus reuteri < /em > supernatant on the replication of herpes simplex virus type 1 and expression of < em > UL54, UL52 < /em > and < em > UL27 < /em > genes
CONCLUSION: The study findings indicated that the supernatant of L. reuteri has a potent anti-HSV-1 effect especially if it is incubated with the virus before inoculation into the cell. Its possible antiviral mechanism is to inhibit the virus by binding to it or changing the surface structure of the virus. Metabolites of L. reuteri can be considered as a novel inhibitor of HSV-1 infection.PMID:38682053 | PMC:PMC11055432 | DOI:10.18502/ijm.v16i1.14877 (Source: Iranian Journal of Microbiology)

The antibiogram of pus cultures in federal tertiary care hospital, Islamabad and its utility in antimicrobial stewardship
CONCLUSION: The generation of a local antibiogram specific to the hospital setting is essential to effectively manage infections empirically and preserve the efficacy of existing antibiotics. By implementing antimicrobial stewardship practices based on a better understanding of antibiotic susceptibility patterns, we can contribute to the mitigation of antibiotic resistance and improve patient outcomes.PMID:38682051 | PMC:PMC11055436 | DOI:10.18502/ijm.v16i1.14871 (Source: Iranian Journal of Microbiology)

The relationship between the World Index for Sustainability and Health (WISH) score and mental health in women: A cross-sectional study
The objective of this cross-sectional study was to explore the relationship between a newly developed dietary index for health and sustainability, and psychological disorders among Iranian women. Participants in this cross-sectional study included 479 women living in Tehran with no history of chronic disease. A validated 168-item food frequency questionnaire was used to assess dietary intake. The World Index for Sustainability and Health (WISH) was calculated, consisting of four sub-scores: less healthy, healthy, low environmental impact, and high environmental impact. Participants psychological status was assessed using t...
