Association of Interleukin-4 Receptor α Chain I50V Gene Variant (rs1805010) and Asthma in Iranian Population: A Case-control Study
CONCLUSION: Asthma patients have a higher prevalence of the I allele, reflecting the significance of Th2 cells. Although total IgE and IL-17A levels increased in both disease subgroups, total IgE level augmentation correlates directly with disease severity, while IL-17A level enhancement does not.PMID:38660682 | PMC:PMC11037512 | DOI:10.2174/0118743064266613231123103523 (Source: Open Respiratory Medicine Journal)

Attenuating Renal Interstitial Fibrosis by Shenqi Pill via  Reducing Inflammation Response Regulated by NF-κB Pathway In Vitro and In Vivo
Conclusion. SQP has a reno-protective effect against RIF in vivo and in vitro, and the effect is partly linked to nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) pathway related inflammatory response, which indicates that SQP may be a candidate drug for RIF. Correlation Between the 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine Level  in the Peritoneal Solution of Patients Undergoing Peritoneal Dialysis and the Peritoneal Equilibration Test, Kt/V, Ferritin, and Albumin Levels
CONCLUSION: The results of the present study demonstrate that the level of 8OHDG, as one of the oxidative stress markers, could be used to evaluate the function of the peritoneum in patients undergoing PD. Risk Factors and Clinical Characterization of Cardiovascularand Cerebrovascular Events in Elderly Hemodialysis Patients
CONCLUSION: Patients with underlying diseases such as hypertensive or diabetic nephropathy are more likely to experience cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events. Longer dialysis duration, higher systolic and diastolic blood pressures, elevated uric acid, TC, TG, LDL-C, PTH and blood glucose levels, and boosted inflammatory reaction are risk factors for these events among elderly HD patients. The purpose of this study is to provide practical guidelines for clinical treatment. Comprehensive measures such as active intervention of risk factors, rational drug use and regular examination should be taken to improve the overall...

Case of IgG4-related Disease with Crescentic  Glomerulonephritis: An Unusual Presentation of the Disease
Iran J Kidney Dis. 2024 Mar;18(2):133-135. doi: 10.5254/dt6zs176.ABSTRACTIgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a chronic systemic inflammatory disease, characterized by tissue infiltration of lymphocytes and IgG4-secreting plasma cells, presenting by fibrosis of different tissues, which is usually responsive only to oral steroids therapy. Kidneys are the most commonly involved organs, exhibiting renal insufficiency, tubulointerstitial nephritis, and glomerulonephritis. Here, we describe a patient with acute renal insufficiency who was presented with edema, weakness, anemia and multiple lymphadenopathies. Kidney and lymph node ...

Microvesicles from Mesenchymal Stem Cells  Overexpressing MiR-34a Ameliorate Renal Fibrosis In Vivo
Conclusion. Our study demonstrates that miR34a further enhances the effects of MSC-MV on renal fibrosis in mice through the regulation of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and Notch pathway. miR-34a may be a candidate molecular therapeutic target for the treatment of renal fibrosis. Mind the Gap in Kidney Care: Translating What We Know  Into What We Do
Iran J Kidney Dis. 2024 Mar;18(2):68-86. doi: 10.5254/sqbbj216.ABSTRACTHistorically, it takes an average of 17 years to move new treatments from clinical evidence to daily practice. Given the highly effective treatments now available to prevent or delay kidney disease onset and progression, this is far too long. The time is now to narrow the gap between what we know and what we do. Clear guidelines exist for the prevention and management of common risk factors for kidney disease, such as hypertension and diabetes, but only a fraction of people with these conditions worldwide are diagnosed, and even fewer are treated to tar...

Conceptual Approach to Body Fluids and Edema, Education  Determines Clinical Outcomes in Heart Failure
Iran J Kidney Dis. 2024 Mar;18(2):65-67. doi: 10.5254/1aytkx77.ABSTRACTIn this brief communication, we reemphasize the importance of critical thinking in clinical practice using the example of edema. The common practice of thinking and inquiry by practicing clinicians has beneficial implications for healthcare by improving outcomes and patient care while alleviating the burden of misconceptions in practice. We provide an in-depth and interactive investigation of physiological concepts as a foundation for understanding body fluid dynamics. Finally, we offer a new classification of symptoms of heart failure. DOI: 10.52547/ij...

Risk Factors Analysis of AKI in Patients with Primary Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Treated with PD-1/PD-L1 Inhibitor
CONCLUSION: Primary NSCLC patients with extrarenal irAEs, high levels of SCr and CRP, and low levels of eGFR have a higher risk of AKI after PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitor treatment. Establishing a predictive model with high accuracy is more conducive to early detection of high-risk patients. Comparison of the Efficacy of 12-day Concomitant Quadruple Therapy versus 14-day High dose Dual Therapy as a First-line < em > H. pylori < /em > Eradication Regimen
CONCLUSIONS: Twelve-day concomitant therapy seems to be an acceptable regimen for first-line H. pylori eradication in Iran, a country with a high rate of antibiotic resistance. Although, high dose dual therapy did not result in an ideal eradication rate, but it had fewer drug side effects than the 12-day concomitant regimen.PMID:38659251 | DOI:10.4166/kjg.2024.012 (Source: Korean J Gastroenter...)
