Monitoring and analysis of pathogenic microorganisms and resistance genes
The objectives are to improve the rapid identification method of microbial risk and cut off the route of transmission of resistance genes. When new pathogenic microorganisms are found, intervention can be carried out as early as possible to identify the risk of potential pathogen transmission, and timely cut off the transmission route. Hospital air samples were collected to analyse the distribution of environmental pathogenic microorganisms and the characteristics of ARGs resistance genes. The air samples were collected from 12 sampling sites in the Affiliated Hospital of Yangzhou University. In the infusion room, general ...

Herpes simplex encephalitis in France: incidence, 6-month rehospitalizations and mortality
ConclusionIn France, the incidence of hospitalizations for HSE was 2.3 per 1,000,000 inhabitants with more than half of the patients admitted in ICU and a 6-month in-hospital mortality about 16.5%. This real-life update on the characteristics and severe outcomes of the disease raises awareness among care practitioners, of the serious nature of the disease, and thus can lead to higher vigilance. Healthcare and economic cost burden of emergency medical services treated non-traumatic shock using a population-based cohort in Victoria, Australia
Conclusion The direct healthcare costs and indirect loss of productivity among patients with non-traumatic shock are high. Targeted public health measures that seek to reduce the incidence of shock and improve systems of care are needed to reduce the financial burden of this syndrome. (Source: BMJ Open)

Association between Antenatal Vaginal Bleeding and Adverse Perinatal Outcomes in Placenta Accreta Spectrum
Conclusions: Antenatal vaginal bleeding in the setting of PAS is associated with increased emergent deliveries, earlier gestational ages, and maternal composite morbidity. This important antenatal event may aid in not only counseling patients but also in the coordination of multidisciplinary teams caring for these complex patients.PMID:38674323 | PMC:PMC11052054 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60040677 (Source: Medicina (Kaunas))

Investigation of the Association between Bilateral Selective Anterograde Cerebral Perfusion and Postoperative Ischemic Stroke in Obese Patients with Emergency Surgery for Acute Type A Aortic Dissection
Conclusions: A patient-tailored strategy for cerebral perfusion should be considered in obese patients, considering the high atheromatous burden of the supra-aortic vessels in these patients and the potential risk of atheromatous embolization associated with this technique.PMID:38674307 | PMC:PMC11052173 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60040661 (Source: Medicina (Kaunas))

The Effect of Intraoperative Patient Positioning on the Success of Intertrochanteric Fracture Surgery in Older Patients
Conclusions: Although PFN surgery using the traction table is longer in terms of surgical time compared to surgery performed in the lateral decubitus position and the supine hemilitotomy position, it is advantageous in terms of better TAD and CDA values and lower complication rates.PMID:38674292 | PMC:PMC11052214 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60040646 (Source: Medicina (Kaunas))

Use of Reverse Shock Index Multiplied by Simplified Motor Score in a Five-Level Triage System: Identifying Trauma in Adult Patients at a High Risk of Mortality
Conclusions: The combination of rSI-sMS and the TTAS yielded superior prioritization performance to TTAS alone. The integration of rSI-sMS and TTAS effectively enhances the efficiency and accuracy of identifying trauma patients at a high risk of mortality.PMID:38674293 | PMC:PMC11052466 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60040647 (Source: Medicina (Kaunas))

Acute Infectious Purpura Fulminans Complicated by Bacterial Translocation after Rectal Cancer Surgery: A Case Report
Medicina (Kaunas). 2024 Apr 17;60(4):644. doi: 10.3390/medicina60040644.ABSTRACTThe patient was a man in his 80s who had undergone laparoscopic anterior resection for rectal cancer. Bowel obstruction occurred on the third postoperative day but improved with a decompression tube by the fifth postoperative day. A high fever (in the 38 °C range) was also observed. Blood culture tests detected two sets of the gram-negative bacilli Klebsiella aerogenes within 24 h of collection. On the seventh postoperative day, the patient subsequently went into septic shock with disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). On the eighth pos...

O < sub > 2 < /sub > Saturation Predicted the ICU Stay of COVID-19 Patients in a Hospital at Altitude: A Low-Cost Tool for Post-Pandemic
Conclusions: PO2S is a crucial factor in estimating ICU stays for COVID-19 patients at high altitudes and serves as an accessible and cost-effective measure. It should be used in infected patients to complement the prognosis of post-pandemic ICU stay.PMID:38674287 | PMC:PMC11052252 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60040641 (Source: Medicina (Kaunas))

Detection of Virulence Genes in Pseudomonas aeruginosa Isolates by Polymerase Chain Reaction and Investigation of High-Risk Clones by Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption/ Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer Method
Mikrobiyol Bul. 2024 Apr;58(2):135-147. doi: 10.5578/mb.202498112.ABSTRACTPseudomonas aeruginosa is a non-fermentative gram-negative bacillus. Many virulence factors play a role in the pathogenesis of P.aeruginosa. The aim of this study was to early detection of ST111, ST175, ST235, ST253, ST395 which are named high-risk clones with increased epidemic potential due to multidrug resistance in P.aeruginosa isolates by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) method and to evaluate the relationship between high-risk clones and the presence of P.aeruginosa virulence factors an...
