Recurrent Duodenal Ulceration —More Than Simple Peptic Ulcer Disease?
Question: A 77-year-old man with a pertinent medical history of dementia, recurrent small bowel obstruction resulting in small bowel resection secondary to intraabdominal adhesions related to a previous hernia repair resulting in small bowel resection, and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug (NSAID) –associated peptic ulcer disease presented with sharp epigastric abdominal pain, nausea, watery nonbloody diarrhea (approximately 4 bowel movements daily), weight loss, and intolerance to oral intake. Before admission, his medication regimen was 40 mg oral omeprazole daily, 1 g metformin twice dai ly, 1000 U cholecalciferol da...

The changes in abdominal wall muscles following incisional hernia wall reconstruction
ConclusionsAfter abdominal wall reconstruction in incisional hernia patients, not only is their anatomical structure restored, but the overall biomechanical integrity of the abdominal wall is also repaired. The damaged muscles are subjected to renewed loading, leading to the reversal of disuse atrophy and an increase in muscle volume. (Source: Hernia)

Robotic vaginal hernia repair for recurrent vaginal prolapse status-post radical cystectomy with indiana pouch
Pelvic organ prolapse following a radical cystectomy is challenging to treat. A radical cystectomy in women includes the removal of the bladder, reproductive organs, and a portion of the anterior vaginal wall. This leads to the disruption of fascial planes and weakening of the pelvic floor (2). The literature cites the average presentation of symptomatic prolapse as 1-2 years following a radical cystectomy (1). Recurrence of prolapse after primary repair is common in this population due to compromised pelvic floor support and tissue quality (3). (Source: American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Suture repair versus mesh repair in elderly populations with incarcerated or strangulated groin hernia
AbstractTension-free hernia repair is the gold standard for groin hernia repair. However, the optimal surgical treatment for incarcerated or strangulated groin hernia in elderly populations is controversial. The aim of this study is to compare the clinical efficacy of mesh repair and suture repair in the treatment of incarcerated or strangulated groin hernia in elderly patients. Patients  ≥ 65 years who underwent urgent surgical repair for incarcerated or strangulated groin hernia from January 2012 to June 2022 were included. Patients’ demographic data and postoperative outcomes were retrospectively analyzed. Pati...

The use of poly-4-hydroxybutyrate (P4HB, Phasix ™) mesh in ventral hernia repair: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionOur study demonstrates that the use of P4HB mesh is both safe and effective in ventral hernia repairs. When further analyzed past 18  months, the time where P4HB mesh fully resorbs, the rates of hernia recurrence, SSI, and any complications remain low of upwards of 5 years and comparable to the rates seen in synthetic and biologics in similar patient populations.
