Perioperative Risk Factors for Persistent Postsurgical Pain after Inguinal Hernia Repair: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
The objective of this study was to systematically review and meta-analyze risk factors that contribute to PPSP after IHR. The literature search resulted in 303 papers included in this review, 140 of which were used for meta-analyses. (Source: The Journal of Pain)

Medium term ( & gt;  12 months) outcomes after laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair without conventional fundoplication using PH4B-mesh implant (Phasix™) in 176 reflux patients: experience and technique
ConclusionAugmented PH4B mesh cruroplasty without conventional fundoplication shows excellent intermediate-term results in patients with reflux disease due to hiatal hernia. Around one in thirty patients experience treatment failure within 2  years of surgery. Hernia size and overweight are key determinants of treatment failure. (Source: Hernia)

Arterial hypertension in infants with congenital diaphragmatic hernia following surgical repair
Conclusion:  This study demonstrates a moderately high incidence of arterial hypertension in CDH infants at discharge and an independent association of creatinine values with arterial hypertension. Physicians should be aware of this risk and include regular BP measurements and test of renal function in CDH car e and follow-up.What is Known:• Due to decreasing mortality, morbidity is increasing in surviving CDH patients.• Pulmonary hypertension and cardiac dysfunction are well-known cardiovascular comorbidities of CDH.What is New:• There is a moderately high incidence of arterial hypertension in CDH infants at discha...

Bilateral indirect ovarian inguinal hernia in a young female with type 1 Mayer –Rokitansky–Küster–Hauser syndrome: An extremely rare clinical context
Key Clinical MessageIncidence of bilateral inguinal hernia encompassing bilateral ovaries in adult female is very thin and concomitant association with Mayer –Rokitansky–Küster–Hauser syndrome is out of ordinary. Along with surgical management of hernia, these females need multidisciplinary slant to manage gynecological, social, and emotional issues.AbstractIn mature females, bilateral ovarian inguinal hernias are a rarity. In this situation, ultrasonography is the basic adjunct to confirm the diagnosis. Mayer –Rokitansky–Küster–Hauser syndrome is typically linked to ovarian hernias in grown-up females. The m...

Use of surgical procedure manager to standardise operation steps and monitor surgeon performance in open repair of inguinal hernia
ConclusionsThe use of SPM did not significantly prolong the operation time and produce comparable operative outcomes in open hernia repair. It provided the additional advantage of standardising operation steps and monitoring the performance of surgical trainees during their training. (Source: Surgical Practice)

Preoperative optimization in hernia surgery: are we really helping or are we just stalling?
ConclusionModifying risk factors before undergoing elective hernia repair can improve the overall health of patients with multiple comorbidities. However, when considering the hernia-specific data, prolonging waiting times for patients to achieve full optimization is not justified. Surgeons should take a nuanced approach to balance achieving patient optimization without unnecessarily delaying surgical care. (Source: Hernia)

Initial experience of a single surgeon for safety and feasibility of the Versius Robotic System in robot-assisted cholecystectomy and hernia repair
This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility, safety, and perioperative outcomes of cholecystectomy and hernia repair performed with the Versius Robotic System by a surgeon with no prior robotic surgery experience. A retrospective analysis was conducted on adult patients who underwent cholecystectomy, inguinal, or umbilical hernia repair using the Versius Robotic System between August 2021 and June 2023 et al. Zahra Hospital, Dubai, UAE. A total of 105 patients (mean age 38.9  ± 9.2 years) were included. Significant correlations existed between the number of robot-assisted cholecystectomies and the operative metrics....
