Short-term outcomes of minimally invasive techniques in posterior component separation for ventral hernia repair: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsOur study provides important information on safety and short-term outcomes of MIS PCS. These data can be used as reference when counseling patients, calculating sample size for prospective trials, setting up targets for prospective audit of hernia centers. Standardization of reporting of preoperative characteristics and postoperative outcomes of patients undergoing MIS PCS and strict audit of the procedure through introduction of prospective national and international registries can facilitate improvement of safety of the MIS complex abdominal wall reconstruction, and help in identifying the safest and most cost...

Risk of conversion after intended total extraperitoneal hernia repair for inguinal hernia depends on type of previous abdominal surgery
ConclusionPLAS to the bladder and prostate is associated with TEP conversion. Selected patients might profit from a different operative approach for inguinal hernia repair. (Source: Hernia)

End-colostomy parastomal hernia repair: a systematic review on laparoscopic and robotic approaches
ConclusionEnd-colostomy PSH surgical repair still represents a challenge for surgeons. Recent evidence has not shown a significant advantage in postoperative complications and recurrence with a specific repair among SB, KH, and sandwich technique. The paucity of data on robotic surgery does not allow to draw definitive conclusion. Further primary, multicentric, and larger cohort studies are needed. (Source: Hernia)

Protocol for an independent patient data meta-analysis of prophylactic mesh placement for incisional hernia prevention after abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery: a collaborative European Hernia Society project (I-PREVENT-AAA)
Introduction Incisional hernia (IH) is a prevalent and potentially dangerous complication of abdominal surgery, especially in high-risk groups. Mesh reinforcement of the abdominal wall has been studied as a potential intervention to prevent IHs. Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) have demonstrated that prophylactic mesh reinforcement after abdominal surgery, in general, is effective and safe. In patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), prophylactic mesh reinforcement after open repair has not yet been recommended in official guidelines, because of relatively small sample sizes in individual trials. Furthermore, the ...

Paraesophageal hernia recurrence following repair: making the case for reoperative surgery in a propensity-matched cohort
ConclusionsMost PEHR patients have symptomatic improvement with minimal complications and reoperations despite frequent radiographic recurrence. Hernia type, crural closure, fundoplication, and mesh usage were not significantly associated with recurrence or symptom improvement. Compared to initial PEHR, reoperative PEHRs had lower rates of symptom improvement but similar rates of recurrence, complications, and need for reoperation. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)
