The use of poly-4-hydroxybutyrate (P4HB, Phasix ™) mesh in ventral hernia repair: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionOur study demonstrates that the use of P4HB mesh is both safe and effective in ventral hernia repairs. When further analyzed past 18  months, the time where P4HB mesh fully resorbs, the rates of hernia recurrence, SSI, and any complications remain low of upwards of 5 years and comparable to the rates seen in synthetic and biologics in similar patient populations. Concomitant midline ventral and inguinal hernia repair: can we create an algorithmic approach?
ConclusionAccess without guidance to new minimally invasive surgical approaches can be a challenge for the general surgeon. We propose an algorithm for decision-making based on our experience of incorporating robotic surgery, when available, for repair of concomitant VHR and IHR with consistent favorable outcomes within a small sample of patients. A rare cause of intestinal obstruction: right paraduodenal hernia
This article aimed to present the diagnosis and treatment process of a 47-year-old male presenting with acute abdomen symptoms by evaluating retrospectively with the accompaniment of literature. During the abdominal exploration of the patient, nearly all of the intestines were observed to be herniated from the right paraduodenal region to the posterior area. The opening of the hernial sac was repaired primarily by reducing the intestinal bowel loops into the intraperitoneal region. The patient undergoing anastomosis by performing resection of the ischemic part after reduction of herniated bowel loops was discharged unevent...

Serum Selenium Concentration as a Potential Diagnostic Marker for Early-Stage Colorectal Cancer: A Comparative Study
CONCLUSIONS This study supports findings from previous studies that low serum selenium levels are associated with colorectal cancer and that selenium deficiency may be a risk factor for colorectal cancer.PMID:38504430 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.942882 (Source: Medical Science Monitor)

Tackling complex thoracic surgical operations with robotic solutions: a narrative review
CONCLUSIONS: The robotic approach to complex thoracic problems is safe, effective, and associated with improved patient outcomes. To encourage wider adoption of robotic technology, increased training and expanded research efforts are essential, alongside improved worldwide access to this technology.PMID:38505049 | PMC:PMC10944716 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1570 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)
