Economic analysis of surgical outcome monitoring using control charts: the SHEWHART cluster randomised trial
Conclusions Using control charts paired with indicator feedback to surgical teams was associated with significant reductions in hospital bed-days within 30 days following surgery, and hospital costs reimbursed for this care by the insurer. Anterior versus posterior component separation technique for advanced abdominal wall reconstruction: a proposed algorithm
ConclusionFollowing a proposed algorithm, the anterior fascial closure rate was high and similar for both techniques. As postoperative wound morbidity is significantly increased after ACST, our findings support recommending TAR for defects up to 14  cm in width, while favoring open ACST for larger defects. Laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal hernia repair in patients with a history of previous abdominopelvic surgery
AbstractA retrospective cohort study of patients undergoing laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair compared short- and long-term outcomes between individuals with or without history of previous abdominopelvic surgery, aiming to determine the feasibility of totally extraperitoneal (TEP) repair within this population. All patients who underwent elective TEP inguinal hernia repair by one consultant surgeon across three London hospitals from January 2017 to May 2023 were retrospectively analysed to assess perioperative outcomes. Two hundred sixty-two patients were identified, of whom two hundred forty-three (93%) underwent laparo...

The Preservation of Umbilical Blood Supply in Combined Ventral Hernia Repair and Abdominoplasty: A Narrative Review
ConclusionDespite the lack of high-quality evidence, all techniques remain viable options for combined ventral hernia repair and abdominoplasty. Large-scale high-quality RCTs are required to compare the effectiveness of various approaches with additional outcomes of hernia recurrence rates, intraoperative time, and patient- and surgeon-reported satisfaction.Level of Evidence IVThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. European Pediatric Surgeons' Association Survey on Timing of Inguinal Hernia Repair in Premature Infants
Conclusion There is variation in the practice patterns of pediatric surgeons in the treatment of IH in premature infants. Due to the concern for the high risk of incarceration, IH repair before discharge was the most prevalent practice. Lower risk of postoperative apnea was cited as the most common reason for delaying surgery. Randomized studies are required to establish the optimal timing for IH repair in premature infants.
