Maintenance of Ionized Calcium During Prolonged Extreme Massive Transfusion During Liver Transplantation
CONCLUSIONS: Our empiric calcium replacement strategy of 1 gram of calcium chloride per liter of citrated bank blood transfused, in 200 mg/200 mL increments, resulted in successful maintenance of ionized calcium during the anhepatic phase of liver transplantation while on continuous veno-venous hemofiltration.PMID:37768774 (Source: WMJ)

Risk factors for progression to bacteremia among patients with nosocomial carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii pneumonia in the Intensive Care Unit
This study aimed to identify independent factors associated with progression from nosocomial pneumonia to bacteremia in patients infected with carbapenem-resistantA. baumannii (CR-AB). From 2019 to 2021, we conducted a retrospective anaylsis of the medical records of 159 nosocomial CR-AB pneumonia patients in our Intensive Care Unit (ICU). We employed both univariate and multivariable logistic regression models to identify factors associated with the progression of nosocomial CR-AB pneumonia to bacteremia. Among the 159 patients with nosocomial CR-AB pneumonia, 40 experienced progression to bacteremia and 38 died within 28...

Postbiotic as Novel Alternative Agent or Adjuvant for the Common Antibiotic Utilized in the Food Industry
CONCLUSION: Postbiotic constituents may be a new approach for utilization in the pharmaceutical and food sectors for developing therapeutic treatments. Further metabolomics investigations are required to describe novel postbiotics and clinical trials are also required to define the sufficient dose and optimum administration frequency of postbiotics.PMID:37702234 | DOI:10.2174/1389201025666230912123849 (Source: Current Pharmaceutical Biotechnology)

Sub-therapeutic trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole plasma concentrations during continuous venovenous hemofiltration in a patient with COVID-19 and pulmonary < em > Pneumocystis jirovecii < /em > co-infection: A  case report
CONCLUSION: We hypothesize that our new dose recommendation of 640/3,200 mg TMP-SMX 3 times daily is associated with an increased probability of critical patients being successfully liberated from mechanical weaning following PJP pneumonia and -COVID-19 infection.PMID:37489071 | DOI:10.5414/CP204407 (Source: Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics)
