Perilous and unaccountable: The positive relationship between dominance and moral hazard behaviors
J Pers Soc Psychol. 2024 Jan 18. doi: 10.1037/pspi0000448. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMoral hazard involves a context where decision-makers engage in behaviors that prioritize self-interest while allowing the associated risk to be primarily borne by others. Such decision making can lead to catastrophic consequences, as seen in the 2008 global financial crisis after hedge fund managers indiscriminately invested their clients' money in subprime mortgages. This research examines which decision-makers are most likely to engage in moral hazard decision making and the psychological mechanism driving this behavior. Drawing on ...

A cluster randomised controlled trial to reduce respiratory effects of cotton dust exposure among textile workers: the MultiTex RCT study
Conclusion We found the intervention to be effective in improving the respiratory health of textile workers and recommend scaling-up of such simple and feasible interventions in low- and middle-income countries. (Source: European Respiratory Journal)

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 396: Chloramine Disinfection of Levofloxacin and Sulfaphenazole: Unraveling Novel Disinfection Byproducts and Elucidating Formation Mechanisms for an Enhanced Understanding of Water Treatment
This study conducts a comprehensive analysis of reaction pathways, encompassing piperazine ring opening/oxidation, Cl-substitution, OH-substitution, desulfurization, and S−N bond cleavage, during chloramine disinfection. Twelve new DBPs were identified in this study, exhibiting stability and persistence even after 24 h of disinfection. Additionally, an examination of DBP generation under varying disinfectant concentrations and pH values revealed peak levels at a molar ratio of 25 for LEV and SPN to chloramine, with LEV contributing 11.5% and SPN 23.8% to the relative abundance of DBPs. Remarkably, this resear...

Measuring Subjective Well-Being of High School Students: Between the Desired and the Real
AbstractSubjective well-being of high-school students depends on the relationship of the desired and the real. This distance creates conditions for the development of self-regulation and motivation for achievement. The article presents a study of the structure of subjective well-being (SWB) of senior schoolchildren. The study involved 3,282 students in grades 7 –11 living in the Tyumen Region of the Russian Federation. The instrumentation used in the study was the author-developed questionnaire based on the questionnaire of The International Survey of Children’s Well-Being – Children's World. The authors suggest that...

The comprehensive prediction of carcinogenic potency and tumorigenic dose (TD < sub > 50 < /sub > ) for two problematic N-nitrosamines in food: NMAMPA and NMAMBA using toxicology in silico methods
This study aimed to predict the carcinogenic potency and tumorigenic dose (TD50) for two problematic N-nitrosamines (N-NAs) commonly found in food: N-2-methylpropyl-N-1-methylacetonylnitrosamine (NMAMPA, CAS: 93755-83-0) and N-3-Methylbutyl-N-1-methylacetonylnitrosamine (NMAMBA, CAS: 71016-15-4). To achieve this goal, in silico toxicology methods were employed due to their practical applications and potential in risk assessment. The justification for conducting these studies was incoherent results published by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). For this purpose, we applied various in silico tools, including qualita...

Remote area nurses' experiences of workplace safety in very remote primary health clinics: A qualitative study
CONCLUSION: Health services need to prioritize workplace safety and take a continuous quality improvement approach to its implementation. This will include ensuring safety strategies are appropriate for the local context, improving infrastructure maintenance, and establishing sustainable second responder systems such as a pool of drivers with local knowledge.IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION: Poor personal safety contributes to burnout and high turnover of staff. Nurses' insights into the barriers and enablers of current workplace safety strategies will aid policymakers and employers in future improvements.REPORTING METHOD: ...

Influence of environmental parameters on workers' dust inhalation in underground mines
In this study, the airflow field and dust distribution in the tunnel are simulated with FLUENT software. The breathing zone for a worker was defined to clarify the extent of external dust distribution influencing dust inhalation. The effects of human respiration, dust production rates, air supply velocities, and workers' positions on dust concentration in the breathing zone were investigated. The results show that there is upward airflow around the worker standing in the center of the air circulation. Human breath barely influences the airflow distribution and respirable dust concentrations in the breathing zone. Reducing ...
