The EMPOWER Program: A History and Guide for Increasing Diversity using Integrated Research and Education
We present here a historical perspective to offer a guide for building programs and relationships with underserved schools to help overcome limiting factors that have plagued certain public school systems. With the proper training and mentorship, the untapped workforce present within these schools will be empowered to understand and address current and emerging environmental health and safety threats. Through this transformative 8-week high school research program, we will develop well-prepared, ethical researchers committed to scientific inquiry, intensive fieldwork, and collaborative problem-solving to address environmen...

Psychosocial factors, psychological well-being and safety incidents among long-distance bus drivers in Ghana: A cross-sectional survey
CONCLUSION: Psychosocial work factors are predictors of psychological well-being and safety incidents of long-distance bus drivers. Owners and managers of bus transport businesses in Ghana, driver unions and station masters need to highly prioritise psychological health and safety of this bus drivers by providing suitable job resources and adopting bottom-up communication that might help the drivers effectively cope with their job demands.PMID:38382443 | DOI:10.1016/j.actpsy.2024.104193 (Source: Acta Psychologica)

Unprofessional behaviour of GP residents leading to a dismissal dispute: characteristics and outcomes of those who appeal
CONCLUSIONS: Deficiencies in both professionalism and communication were the most prevalent findings among the dismissed General Practice residents. These two deficiencies overlapped considerably. Dismissed residents who challenged their programme director's decision were considered to lack self-awareness, which requires introspection and the appreciation of feedback from others.PMID:38378463 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-024-02294-8 (Source: Primary Care)

L-arginine attenuates Streptococcus uberis-induced inflammation by decreasing miR155 level
Int Immunopharmacol. 2024 Feb 18;130:111638. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2024.111638. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTL-arginine, as an essential substance of the immune system, plays a vital role in innate immunity. MiR155, a multi-functional microRNA, has gained importance as a regulator of homeostasis in immune cells. However, the immunoregulatory mechanism between L-arginine and miR155 in bacterial infections is unknown. Here, we investigated the potential role of miR155 in inflammation and the molecular regulatory mechanisms of L-arginine in Streptococcus uberis (S. uberis) infections. And we observed that miR155 was up-regul...
