Perspectives from the pandemic epicenter: Sexual and reproductive health of immigrant women in New York City
ConclusionUnderstanding how immigrant women's SRH shifted in response to the structural and policy constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic can reveal how historically marginalized communities will be impacted by an increasingly restrictive reproductive health and immigration policy landscape. Understanding the Solid-Electrolyte-Interface (SEI) formation in Glyme Electrolyte using Time-of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (ToF-SIMS)
ChemSusChem. 2024 Apr 3:e202301866. doi: 10.1002/cssc.202301866. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLithium-ion batteries are commonly used for energy storage due to their long lifespan and high energy density, but the use of unsafe electrolytes poses significant health and safety concerns. An alternative source is necessary to maintain electrochemical efficacy. This research demonstrates new safe glyme-based electrolytes for silica/carbon (SiOx/C) nanocomposite derived from Australian rice husk (RH). The quality of SiOx/C was preserved by using deep eutectic solvent-based pre-treatment and single-step carbonization, which was ...

The after-effects of occupational whole-body vibration on human cognitive, visual, and motor function: A systematic review
Appl Ergon. 2024 Apr 1;118:104264. doi: 10.1016/j.apergo.2024.104264. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWhole-body vibration (WBV) is prevalent in labour-related activities and can have adverse effects on the health and performance of the individuals exposed. However, evidence regarding the extent to which human functionality is affected following occupational WBV exposure has not been collated. The current systematic review sought to synthesize existing literature and assess the strength and direction of evidence regarding the acute after-effects of occupational WBV exposure on cognition, visual function, postural stability, ...

Cardiac player health and safety: a call to action
On 2 January 2023, Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills suffered sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in front of millions of viewers on Monday Night Football, and on 16 December 2023, international football (soccer) star Tom Lockyer suffered SCA on the pitch in Luton’s match against Bournemouth. These events are a stark reminder that the keystone of cardiac health and safety in athletes is a well-planned, well-rehearsed emergency action plan (EAP) with an emphasis on rapid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use. Thankfully, while SCA in athletes on the competitive field is infrequent,...

Occupational health policies in older workers: comparative analysis between Spain and Chile
CONCLUSIONS: The Spanish regulations present a greater presence of indications on aging compared to the Chilean one. However, development in this area is insufficient in both countries. Chile and Spain have guides of recommendations, which are not mandatory, and their application is voluntary. This suggests that the prevention of occupational risks has a great pending challenge with people over 55 years of age.PMID:38555696 | DOI:10.1016/j.gaceta.2024.102382 (Source: Gaceta Sanitaria)

Prevalence and associated factors of occupational injuries in an industrial city in Ghana
ConclusionThe prevalence of occupational injuries in this study was high. Promoting machine tools ’ safety, health and safety training, and satisfaction with health and safety measures through rewarding workers who do not sustain injuries could be key to employees’ health and safety.
