Masters program w undergrad classes--what to do w/GPA calculation?
Hi all, I am currently in a 'hard science' masters program at a school different from my UG institution. I know the conventional SDN wisdom is that MS programs that aren't SMPs are useless in terms of GPA repair (which wasn't my original motive in enrolling in the program anyways), but my program doesn't have the cakewalk, joke class curriculum that I've been led to believe is standard at many other programs; the majority of classes I have taken are upper-level undergrad courses in BCPM... Low GPA: diy or post-bacc? (and more)
Hey, SND Fam, I'm new to the website and I finally figured out how to post a new thread. I have posted these questions elsewhere and have gotten some stellar responses and advice. I deleted most of my posts but the responses are still up. I'm still seeking advice and I hope that this helps anyone out there in a similar situation as I am I have an incredibly low cGPA (3.10 before repair) and currently I'm in a gap year to make sure that the medical field is something I really want. Now... Low GPA: diy or post-bacc? (and more) (Source: Student Doctor Network)

preop stent case
Had this one the other day: 55yoM presents to ambulatory surgery center for shoulder repair which was scheduled a few weeks ago. He is at the end of a "surgical window period" following his acute shoulder injury after which time the shoulder (biceps tendon I believe) cannot be reliably repaired. He will likely fall outside of the window period if not repaired today. Shortly after scheduling this surgery he had a drug eluting stent placed. This was 3 weeks ago. He did not follow up with the... preop stent case (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Why did you decide to take a gap year?
I'm currently a junior that's in the process of deciding whether or not I want to apply to med school in 2017. I won't really be able to make a fully informed decision until around April/May, but I was curious about the reasons why other people chose to take a year (or years) off before applying. I'm particularly interested to hear from people who weren't in need of GPA repair, or potentially even had a high MCAT score. For me, taking a gap year would allow me to get more volunteering and... How much do your friends/colleagues know about what you're doing?
I'm at the beginning of a long slog of GPA repair after several years out of school, and I'm having trouble figuring out how honest to be with the people around me (particularly people connected to my professional life) about what I'm up to with school and med school application plans. People know I'm aiming towards med school, but have no idea that I have years of ****ty grades weighing me down--and I feel like in my professional and personal circles I'm the lone ****up outlier in a sea of... Life as a vascular surgeon
Hi all, If anyone has any details, I'd be interested in learning about what the life of a vascular surgeon is like. Other than aortic aneurysm repair, are there any procedures that offer as much excitement? As a rotating 3rd year, you hear rumors about each specialty and the one associated with vascular is that the procedures are generally very boring. Was hoping someone can shed light on this! I've never been this depressed in my life. I'm here to seek advice on where to go from here.
First off I do apologize on this being a "first post" on a new account. I'm actually a regular member on here, but I chose to use a new account for anonymity as I'm going through a pretty difficult time in my life and didn't want to post under my regular username. I hope you understand. So I recently started a masters in biomedical science to repair a poor undergrad transcript riddled with withdrawals with repeated attempts. All in all I graduated undergrad with a 3.4 oGPA and a 3.2 sGPA. I... I've never been this depressed in my life. I'm here to seek advice on where to go from here. (...

Comprehensive list of all practice exams and materials available
Hello my sugarplums, I was getting confused on where to find and organize all my practice exams, so I have spent the past two hours researching how I can get my hands on EVERY practice exam available, because I am studying for this test for 6 months and I'm being a little crazy (making up for a below-competitive GPA and need to smash the MCAT while I do some GPA repair). Anywho, below is a list that I created of every possible practice exam you can take, as well as all the best practice... Grade repair at community college
I'm a non-trad and self-employed. I want to take some classes at a healthcare-oriented 2-year college that is affiliated with a very well-known hospital for GPA repair and because my most recent college classes were so long ago. It's much more affordable and doesn't require a lengthy application process like a 4-year school does. Is this a bad idea? Will these classes not "count" with adcoms? I've seen this question asked about taking classes prior to graduation, and about taking pre-reqs,... Grade repair at community college (Source: Student Doctor Network)

is 2.5 years of "gpa comeback" enough?
Quick question, how much GPA repair is "enough" to get one back on level playing ground with the perfect 3.8 cGPA, 22 y/o kiddos? Is there any amount? Could 2-2.5 years of full-time, upper division science courses at a 4.0 be enough to make up for a pretty crap undergrad showing? I understand that there are so many other factors and variables to consider and I don't want to turn this into a WAMC thread so I'm just thinking, from a adcom perspective, is 2.5 years + a bunch of life... is 2.5 years of "gpa comeback" enough? Better to do prereqs in 2 or 3 years?
Hi, my community college says they won't advise on anything pre-med so I'm figuring it out on my own (with your help ). I'm 30 and planning on starting in the fall. Here are my non-trad options for prereqs: Take them over 2 years. When factoring in study time, volunteering, shadowing, etc. it looks like I may not have enough time to do it all while taking 3 classes, at least not well enough to get the As I need to repair my 3.0 GPA. Take them over 3 years. I'll be another... Better to do prereqs in 2 or 3 years? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Polymerases
I just want to make a brief list comparing prokaryotic vs their analogous eukaryotic polymerases. Prokaryotic : Eukaryotic DNA primase : DNA polymerase ALPHA DNA polymerase I : DNA polymerase BETA DNA polymerase III : DNA polymerase DELTA Would you say those comparisons are correct?? I'm also aware that in base-excision repair, a base-specific glycosylase recognizes the damaged base. AP-endonuclease creates a nick and exposes a free... Polymerases (Source: Student Doctor Network)
