femoral block for ACL repair
In 2018 what are you all doing in terms of block for ACL repair. Most of our surgeons want femoral block and since patients are all going home with knee immobilizers, quad weakness is of no concern. Some surgeons are adamant that femoral blocks delays recovery for ACL repairs, either from personal experience or due to Femoral nerve blocks delay recovery after... femoral block for ACL repair (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Question about home supplies (xylocaine, lac repair kits, ETC.)
I do apologize in advance if this has been answered elsewhere. I tried searching, but could come up with no answers. Is there any way for a licensed physician with DEA# to acquire minimal amount of lidocaine, dermabond, lac repair kits for home use? I plan on living in the countryside for most of my life and would prefer not to take children/family/friends to UCs or EDs if I can do lac repair at home. I know there is risk involved, but I'm just asking if it is possible to stock these... Question about home supplies (xylocaine, lac repair kits, ETC.) (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Physician-Scientist dream... what should be done? Residency/PhD/Fellowship?
Hi! I'm a 2nd year medical student in a tough spot. I want to have a future doing translational research / clinical on spinal cord injury repair and neural plasticity - a post-neurology fellowship offered in very limited locations. Now I am left to decide a few options: A) The neurorehabilitation/plasticity fellowship I'm looking to sub-specialize in is extremely limited in options. Should I do my neurology residency at the same place where the fellowship is available? - the fellowship I... Physician-Scientist dream... what should be done? Residency/PhD/Fellowship? MCAT accommodations due to a physical injury
Hi guys, I've been debating whether I should apply for accommodations for the MCAT. I've recently undergone a right posterior labrum repair of my right shoulder. As a result, I won't have full use of my right arm until later this year, but I plan on taking the MCAT in March. I am right handed, and as of right now I cannot perform any tasks with my right arm (even typing and writing). What are your opinions on this subject. I know that applying for accommodations is a difficult process for... MCAT accommodations due to a physical injury (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Major GPA repair in prep for MSTP applications
Hey all. So I have a few questions and I'm open to all advice! So as the title suggests my undergraduate GPA was not good (sub 3.0) I did have several leadership positions, shadowing, significant research hours (no publications however), vounteering experiences. I'm currently in an accelerated Masters program which also happens to be a thesis Masters program as well. So I'm conducting approximately 30 hours of research along with a full course load. (God willing we get some publications... Major GPA repair in prep for MSTP applications (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Major reinvention story - what should I do now?
Hi everyone! Long time lurker but first time poster. I am a 31 year old non-trad who has undergone major transcript repair/reinvention efforts over the past few years, and I'm hoping for some advice on what to do from here. I'll do my best to make it brief. I started school at my local community college in 2004 and did fairly well. I earned an AA in one year (had lots of dual-enrollment credits from high school) and transferred to a major state school in 2005. My first semester there,... M2 Winter Break, Step 1 Awaits! (Ask a Non-Trad [Almost] Anything)
Hey everyone! So I like posting AMAs on my summer/winter breaks to give both pre-meds and newmeds the opportunity to ask random questions, and we've just begun winter break so here I am. Background: I'm a female non-trad in my late thirties entering medicine as a second career (technically third career). Had to do extensive GPA repair as I was sub-3.0 when I decided to attempt this. Currently attending a US MD school. Obviously many questions people have are not cut and dry and can... M2 Winter Break, Step 1 Awaits! Low GPA senior year
Hello all. I am currently in my 4th year of undergrad and I'm not thrilled with my stats cGPA: 3.06 sGPA: 2.72 (57 credits) MCAT: TBD (taking summer 2019, still have pre reqs to take) E.C.: 200 hours working as a PT Aide (unpaid), 80 hours shadowing (no DO's), many hours non-clinical work I am planning on doing a postbacc to repair my GPA. Shoulder Arthroscopy with an LMA
I had an interesting case today, 6'1 330lbs male present for a right shoulder arthroscopy with rotator cuff repair. He has a large neck 3 FB TMD. He says he never has been to the doctor. He doesn't believe he has OSA. The orthopedic surgeon book him at their surgery center because he has good insurance. The case position is the left lateral decubitus position with a bean bag. I am curious how many PP docs would do this case with LMA or would you say it needs to be done as an inpatient? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

About to start new post-bacc semester, need advice
Hello all, I would appreciate some advice about the best way to approach my next few semesters and MCAT prep. I am about to start my third semester of my DIY post-bacc. I also just completed Orgo I and Orgo II (lecture portions, not lab) over the summer. My plans for grade replacement have become plans for transcript repair and so I am trying to be as thoughtful as possible in planning the rest of my post-bacc. This is my fall '17 schedule: 1. Physics I and lab (4 credits total) 2. Gen... About to start new post-bacc semester, need advice (Source: Student Doctor Network)
