Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 989: Sex Differences in Cancer Incidence Rates by Race and Ethnicity: Results from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Registry (2000 & ndash;2019)
This study investigated sex differences in cancer incidence by race and ethnicity. Cancer incidence data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Result (SEER) program (2000–2019) were used to calculate male-to-female incidence rate ratios (MF IRRs) for each cancer site, stratified by race and ethnicity, and age-standardized to the 2000 U.S. population for individuals ages ≥ 20 years. Among 49 cancer sites, 44 showed male predominance (MF IRR > 1), with seven inconsistencies across race and ethnicity, including cancers of the lip, tongue, hypopharynx, retroperitoneum, larynx, pleura ...

Laparoscopic Dissection of Lymph Node Station 16-Why and How?
CONCLUSIONS: While station 16 provides important prognostic information for risk stratification, a strategic and stepwise approach is needed for a safe sampling. This is accomplished by wide mobilization of the duodenum, implementation of thermal fusion to minimize chyle leak, and careful dissection below the left renal vein.PMID:38411760 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-024-15040-2 (Source: Ann Oncol)

Management of incidentally detected gallbladder polyps: a review of clinical scenarios using the 2022 SRU gallbladder polyp consensus guidelines
AbstractGallbladder (GB) polyps are a common incidental finding on sonography, but only a small fraction of polyps become GB cancer. The Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound (SRU) consensus committee recently performed an extensive literature review and published guidelines for GB polyp follow-up/management to provide clarity among the many heterogeneous recommendations that are available to clinicians. As these guidelines have become adopted into clinical practice, challenging clinical scenarios have arisen including GB polyps in primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), high risk geographic/genetic patient populations, shri...

An unusual case series of synchronous primary malignancies: Carcinoma gallbladder with renal cell carcinoma, carcinoma gallbladder with carcinoma colon, carcinoma gallbladder with carcinoma breast
J Cancer Res Ther. 2023 Jan 1;19(Suppl 2):S958-S962. doi: 10.4103/jcrt.jcrt_976_22. Epub 2023 Apr 30.ABSTRACTSynchronous primary cancers are very rare. Due to their low incidence rate and insidious onset, they may be easily overlooked or misdiagnosed. In addition, there is currently no international consensus for their clinical diagnosis and treatment. Three exceedingly unusual synchronous primary malignancies, carcinoma gallbladder with renal cell carcinoma, carcinoma gallbladder with carcinoma colon, and carcinoma gallbladder with carcinoma breast, are presented here. Together with their clinical presentation, therapeuti...

A Comprehensive narrative review of transcriptomics and epigenomics of gallbladder cancer
J Cancer Res Ther. 2023 Jan 1;19(Suppl 2):S499-S507. doi: 10.4103/jcrt.jcrt_1823_23. Epub 2024 Feb 21.ABSTRACTGallbladder cancer (GBC) is one of the quiet prevalent and aggressive biliary tract malignant neoplasms distinguished by significant cellular heterogeneity, metastatic activity, and a poor prognosis, with varied frequency worldwide. Most cases are detected incidentally while routine screening imaging or pathological investigation of cholecystectomy tissues and usually present with advanced disease. The surgical resection is usually done in the initial clinical stage having limited spread. Despite the surgical thera...

The anticancer activity of bile acids in drug discovery and development
Bile acids (BAs) constitute essential components of cholesterol metabolites that are synthesized in the liver, stored in the gallbladder, and excreted into the intestine through the biliary system. They play a crucial role in nutrient absorption, lipid and glucose regulation, and the maintenance of metabolic homeostasis. In additional, BAs have demonstrated the ability to attenuate disease progression such as diabetes, metabolic disorders, heart disease, and respiratory ailments. Intriguingly, recent research has offered exciting evidence to unveil their potential antitumor properties against various cancer cell types incl...

Drug approach to treatment for obesity in adults: perspectives and considerations
Rev Esp Enferm Dig. 2024 Feb 12;116. doi: 10.17235/reed.2024.10206/2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTObesity is considered a chronic disease and a serious public-health issue in Spain, as well as in many other countries, primarily because of it being a significant risk factor for multiple chronic conditions, including diabetes mellitus type 2, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease, gastrointestinal conditions (gastroesophageal reflux, diverticulosis), musculoskeletal difficulties, infertility, and even development of some malignancies such as postmenopausal brea...
