Thoracic aortic microcalcification activity in combined positron emission tomography and magnetic resonance imaging
ConclusionAscending aortic microcalcification analysis in PET-MRI is feasible with comparable findings to PET-CT. RadialVIBE-2 tissue attenuation correction correlates best with the reference standard of PET-CT and is less susceptible to artefact. There remain challenges in segmenting tissue types in PET-MRI reconstructions, and improved attenuation correction methods are required. Predicting Lewis Acidity: Machine-Learning the Fluoride Ion Affinity of p-Block-Atom-based Molecules
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 Mar 7:e202401084. doi: 10.1002/anie.202401084. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACT"How strong is this Lewis acid?" is a question researchers often approach by calculating its fluoride ion affinity (FIA) with quantum chemistry. Here, we present FIA49k, an extensive FIA dataset with 48,986 data points calculated at the RI-DSD-BLYP-D3(BJ)/def2-QZVPP//PBEh-3c level of theory, including 13 different p-block atoms as the fluoride accepting site. The vast amount of data allowed for hitherto unmatched correlations with other Lewis acidity descriptors, serving the qualitative understanding of Lewis acidity. ...

Humic acid-nanoceria composite as a sustainable adsorbent for simultaneous removal of uranium(VI), chromium(VI), and fluoride ions from aqueous solutions
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Mar 6. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-32730-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn this article, the multifunctional behavior of novel, efficient, and cost-effective humic acid-coated nanoceria (HA@CeO2 NPs) was utilized for the sorptive removal of U(VI), Cr(VI), and F- ions at different conditions. The production cost of HA@CeO2 was $19.28/kg and was well characterized by DLS, FESEM, HRTEM, FTIR, XRD, XPS, and TGA. Batch adsorption study for U(VI) (at pH ~ 8), Cr(VI) (at pH ~ 1), and F- (at pH ~ 2) revealed that the maximum percentage of sorption was > 80% for all the cases. From the contact time...

A Triply-Periodic-Minimal-Surface Structured Interphase based on Fluorinated Polymers Strengthening High-energy Lithium Metal Batteries
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 Mar 5:e202402910. doi: 10.1002/anie.202402910. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe challenge of constructing a mechanically robust yet lightweight artificial solid-electrolyte interphase layer on lithium (Li) anodes highlights a trade-off between high battery safety and high energy density. Inspired by the intricate microstructure of the white sea urchin, we first develop a polyvinyl fluoride-hexafluoropropylene (PVDF-HFP) interfacial layer with a triple periodic minimal surface structure (TPMS) that could offer maximal modulus with minimal weight. This design endows high mechanical strength to a...

Identification of groundwater pollution sources and health risk assessment in the Fengshui mining area of Central Shandong, China
This study selected 47 groundwater samples from the Fengshui mining area in central Shandong Province, China, employing advanced hydrogeochemical techniques, positive matrix factorization (PMF), and Monte Carlo analysis methods, aimed at unveiling the characteristics, origins, and health risks of water pollutants. The results indicated that the majority of samples exhibited a slightly alkaline nature. Notably, the concentrations of fluoride (F-) and nitrate (NO3-) exceeded China's safety standards in 40.43% and 23.40% of the samples, respectively. Moreover, a water quality index (WQI) below 50 was observed in approximately...

Water quality and geochemical facie of high-altitude lakes in Tawang, Eastern Himalaya, India
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Mar 5. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-32712-4. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHigh-altitude lakes (HALs) can be used as a supplement or alternative source of water in areas where there is a water shortage. When these lakes are efficiently managed, they can supply more water resources to fulfil the increasing demand. Water quality assessment aids in the identification of adequate and safe drinking water sources. It minimizes threats to the public's health by making sure that lake water extraction fulfills safety and health regulations. Water quality and hydrogeochemical study was conducted on six HA...
