Perfluorooxosulfate Salts as SOF4-Gas-Free Precursors to Multidimensional SuFEx Electrophiles
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 Apr 17:e202403797. doi: 10.1002/anie.202403797. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSulfur(VI) Fluoride Exchange (SuFEx) chemistry stands as a well-established method for swiftly constructing complex molecules in a modular fashion. An especially promising segment of this toolbox is reserved for multidimensional SuFEx hubs: three or more substituents pluggable into a singular SVI centre to make 'beyondlinear' clicked constructions. Sulfurimidoyl difluorides (RNSOF2) stand out as the prime example of this, however their preparation from the scarcely available thionyl tetrafluoride (SOF4) limits this ch...

Reductions of Arenes using a Magnesium-Dinitrogen Complex
Chemistry. 2024 Apr 15:e202401005. doi: 10.1002/chem.202401005. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn this contribution, we present "Birch-type", and other reductions of simple arenes by the potassium salt of an anionic magnesium dinitrogen complex, [{K(TCHPNON)Mg}2(μ-N2)] (TCHPNON = 4,5-bis(2,4,6-tricyclohexylanilido)-2,7-diethyl-9,9-dimethyl-xanthene), which acts as a masked dimagnesium(I) diradical in these reactions. This reagent is non-hazardous, easy-to-handle, and readily provides access to 1,4-cyclohexadiene reduction products under relatively mild reaction conditions. This system works effectively to reduce benzene, n...

Expedient Access to 18F-Fluoroheteroarenes via Deaminative Radiofluorination of Aniline-Derived Pyridinium Salts
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 Apr 16:e202404945. doi: 10.1002/anie.202404945. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHerein, we disclose that pyridinium salts derived from abundant (hetero)anilines represent a novel precursor class for nucleophilic aromatic substitution reactions with [18F]fluoride. The value of this new 18F-fluorodeamination is demonstrated with the synthesis of over 30 structurally diverse and complex heteroaryl 18F-fluorides, several derived from scaffolds that were yet to be labelled with fluorine-18. The protocol tolerates heteroarenes and functionalities commonly found in drug discovery libraries, and is amena...

Effect of different brushing parameters on erosive tooth wear in primary bovine enamel and dentin
by Philipp Kanzow, Corinna Witt, Clemens Lechte, Sarah Barke, Bianca Rohland, Alexandra Schmidt, Annette Wiegand This in-vitro study aimed to analyse the effect of brushing and different brushing parameters (kind of toothpaste, kind of toothbrush, brushing force) on erosive tooth wear of primary bovine enamel and dentin. Specimens were prepared from primary bovine enamel or dentin (each group n = 12) and cyc lically eroded (6 × 60 s/d, citric acid, pH 2.4) and brushed with children’s toothbrushes (2 × 15 s/d) over 5 days. The brushing parameters under investigation were: toothpaste (fluoridated, fluoride-free), toothb...

PVDF/ZnO piezoelectric nanofibers designed for monitoring of internal micro-pressure
In this study, we present a breakthrough in the fabrication of soft poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) organic electrospun piezoelectric nanofibers (OEPNs) with exceptional piezoelectric performance achieved through the incorporation of zinc oxide nanorods (ZnO NR). The inclusion of ZnO NR proved instrumental in augmenting the nanocrystallization of PVDF organic electrospun piezoelectric nanofibers (OEPNs), leading to a highly efficient crystal phase transformation from the α phase to the β/γ phase, serving as superior piezoelectric working dipoles. The resulting PVDF/ZnO NR OEPNs exhibited unparalleled piezoelectric outp...

Evaluation of irrigation, drinking, and risk indices for water quality parameters of alpine lakes
This study examined the water characteristics of various alpine lakes in Gilgit-Baltistan, Northern Pakistan. For this purpose, water was sampled and investigated for basic parameters, anions, and cations using the multi-parameter analyzers and atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Physicochemical parameters of alpine lakes were noted under the World Health Organization water guidelines, except for fluoride (F−) and turbidity in 4.3% and 36% of samples, respectively. Water quality index (WQI) classified samples (93%) as excellent and good quality (7%). Results showed maximum chronic daily intake values (0.14  ± 0.01Â...

SuFEx-based chemical diversification for the systematic discovery of CRBN molecular glues
Bioorg Med Chem. 2024 Apr 4;104:117699. doi: 10.1016/j.bmc.2024.117699. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMolecular glues are small molecules that stabilize protein-protein interactions, enabling new molecular pharmacologies, such as targeted protein degradation. They offer advantages over proteolysis targeting chimeras (PROTACs), which present challenges associated with the size and properties of heterobifunctional constructions, but glues lack the rational design principles analogous to PROTACs. One notable exception is the ability to alter the structure of Cereblon (CRBN)-based molecular glues and redirect their activity to...

Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 2479: The Strong Coupling Effect between Metallic Split-Ring Resonators and Molecular Vibrations in Polymethyl Methacrylate
a Han We propose and study a nanoscale strong coupling effect between metamaterials and polymer molecular vibrations using metallic split-ring resonators (SRRs). Specifically, we first provided a numerical investigation of the SRR design, which was followed by an experimental demonstration of strong coupling between mid-infrared magnetic dipole resonance supported by the SRRs fabricated on a calcium fluoride substrate and polymethyl methacrylate molecular vibrations at 1730 cm−1. Characterized by the anti-crossing feature and spectral splitting behaviors in the transmission spectra, these results demonstr...

Synthetic strategy for the production of electrically polarized polyvinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene-co-polymer osseo-functionalized with hydroxyapatite scaffold
J Biomed Mater Res A. 2024 Apr 10. doi: 10.1002/jbm.a.37720. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe physiological mechanism of bone tissue regeneration is intricately organized and involves several cell types, intracellular, and extracellular molecular signaling networks. To overcome the drawbacks of autografts and allografts, a number of synthetically produced scaffolds have been manufactured by integrating ceramics, polymers, and their hybrid-composites. Considering the fact that natural bone is composed primarily of collagen and hydroxyapatite, ceramic-polymer composite materials seem to be the most viable alternative to bon...

Deoxyfluorinated amidation and esterification of carboxylic acid by pyridinesulfonyl fluoride
We report an amide bond formation reaction through deoxyfluorinated carboxylic acids under mild conditions using 2-pyridinesulfonyl fluoride. The reaction procedure has been used in a one-pot synthesis of amides and esters via in situ generation of acyl fluoride. This one-pot synthetic method provides easy access to amides and esters. Using this method, we have sequentially synthesized a tetrapeptide and calceolarioside-B glycoside derivative with good yields.PMID:38602165 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc00877d (Source: Chemical Communications)
