Association of hyperparathyroidism and benign fibro-osseous jaw tumors: a 25-year retrospective study at Mayo Clinic
ConclusionPatients with benign jaw tumors including FD, OF, and GCG may have increased risk of PHPT compared to the general population. Surgeons treating these benign tumors need to be cognizant of these findings, obtain appropriate laboratory studies, and incorporate multidisciplinary care including endocrinologists, endocrine surgeons, and maxillofacial surgeons. Cervical Aggressive Fibromatosis Causing Airway Obstruction
We report the case of a 26-year-old Tunisian female who presented with acute obstructive dyspnea and a 3-week history of cervical swelling. The swelling was initially only located in the left submandibular area, it then gradually extended to all the anterior cervical supra- and infrahyoid regions causing a clinical presentation resembling that of obstructive dyspnea, the patient was admitted, and an emergency tracheotomy was performed. Tissue samples were taken, pathological analysis revealed an aggressive case of fibromatosis. The patient was treated with corticosteroids and antihormonal therapy, the fibrous mass shrunk c...

PDGFR β signaling cooperates with β-catenin to modulate c-Abl and biologic behavior of desmoid-type fibromatosis
CONCLUSIONS: The β-catenin transcriptional target ABL1 is necessary for proliferation and maintenance of HIF1α in desmoid cells. Regulation of c-Abl activity by PDGF signaling and targeted therapies modulates desmoid cell proliferation, thereby suggesting a reason for variable biologic behavior between tumors, a mechanism for sorafenib activity in desmoids, and markers predictive of outcome in patients.PMID:37943631 | DOI:10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-23-2313 (Source: Cell Research)
