A multicentric, randomized, controlled trial of yoga and fenugreek in prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus: methodological details —the Indian Prevention of Diabetes Study (IPDS)
AbstractPreliminary studies have shown that yoga as well as fenugreek are beneficial in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This clinical trial is the first of its kind to prospectively evaluate in a multicentric, randomized, and controlled design if yoga and fenugreek can prevent the composite outcome of T2DM in prediabetic individuals. It aims to investigate whether there is an effective and safe treatment modality for the prevention of T2DMwhich is also-cost effective and can be implemented easily on a large scale so as to reduce the burden of T2DM. One thousand five hundred obese prediabetic individual aged ...

Cell Growth Inhibition, DNA Fragmentation and Apoptosis-Inducing Properties of Household-Processed Leaves and Seeds of Fenugreek ( < em > Trigonella Foenum-Graecum < /em > Linn.) against HepG2, HCT-116, and MCF-7 Cancerous Cell Lines
In this study, the anticancer activity of household-processed fenugreek leaves and seeds against HepG2, HCT-116, MCF-7, and VERO cell lines was measured using an MTT assay. DNA fragmentation of both HepG2 and MCF-7 was investigated by using gel electrophoresis. RT-PCR was used to evaluate the relative expression of each p53, caspase-3, Bax, and Bcl-2 genes, whereas ELISA assay determined the expression of caspase-3, TNF-α, and 8-OHDG genes. Western blotting analyzed the protein-expressing levels of IKK-α and IKK-β proteins in each studied cell line. Data showed that at 500 µg mL-1, ADFL had the highest cytotoxicity aga...

The Effects of Fenugreek Seed Consumption on Blood Pressure: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
ConclusionSupplementation with fenugreek seed, especially in dosages ≥ 15 g/day and durations ≤ 12 weeks, might play a role in reducing SBP, but not DBP. However, further investigations are warranted to ensure the clinical relevance of these findings. (Source: High Blood Pressure and Cardiovascular Prevention)

Comparative study on the impacts of visnagin and its methoxy derivative khellin on human lymphocyte proliferation and Th < sub > 1 < /sub > /Th < sub > 2 < /sub > balance
CONCLUSIONS: In PHA-stimulated lymphocytes, representing Th2 dominant allergic diseases, khellin and visnagin provides more specific anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory functions than dexamethasone. In addition, the effects of khellin were more prominent than visnagin.PMID:36745338 | DOI:10.1007/s43440-023-00452-w (Source: Pharmacological Reports)

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 951: Biosynthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Utilizing Leaf Extract of Trigonella foenum-graecum L. for Catalytic Dyes Degradation and Colorimetric Sensing of Fe3+/Hg2+
i Savita Rani The aqueous Trigonella foenum-graecum L. leaf extract belonging to variety HM 444 was used as reducing agent for silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesis. UV–Visible spectroscopy, Particle size analyser (PSA), Field emission scanning electron microscopy coupled to energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (FESEM-EDX) and High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) were used to characterize AgNPs. Selected area electron diffraction (SAED) confirmed the formation of metallic Ag. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) was done to find out the possible phytochemicals responsible ...

Synergistic effect of biochar amendment in milk processing industry sludge and cattle dung during the vermiremediation
Bioresour Technol. 2023 Jan 11;371:128612. doi: 10.1016/j.biortech.2023.128612. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe effective and sustainable management of fast growing and large quantities of industrial waste is a serious issue. The purpose of the present study was to assess the synergistic effect of biochar (BC) amended in milk processing industry sludge (MS) mixed with cattle dung (CD) in different ratios through vermiremediation. The MS25 and MS25BC10 (25:75 + 10 % BC) showed the least mortality and greatest earthworm growth and development. The final product from all feed mixtures recorded a decrease in pH, total organi...

The synergetic effects of some phytobiotics mix on growth, hematology and microbial loads of broiler chickens
This study investigated the growth and health-promoting effectiveness of three medicinal plants (black cumin, fenugreek, and turmeric) on broilers. A total of 270 (Cobb 500) day-old broiler chicks were randomly assigned to 6 dietary treatments: basal diet (T0), basal diet + oxytetracycline (T1), basal diet + black cumin and fenugreek (T2), basal diet + black cumin and turmeric (T3), basal diet + fenugreek and turmeric (T4), basal diet + black cumin, fenugreek and turmeric (T5). BWG and ADG had no differences (p ≥ 0.05) between T5 and antibiotics-fed birds. Phytobiotic supplemented birds (T2, T3, T4, and T5) had lower fee...
