Surgery Showcase for Pre-Pods
I created this thread to show pre-pods what kinds of surgical cases you can do as a podiatrist. Of course, surgery isn't the only part of podiatry, you really need to have a good handle on medicine as well. The best surgeons are those who know when/how to avoid surgery. Some podiatrists sub-specialize in a certain area, like diabetic limb salvage (me), sports medicine, trauma, pediatrics, etc. and the surgical procedures and settings (i.e. hospital vs. surgery center) will vary. If... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Questions for Podiatry's Leaders
Ok, here are the ground rules for this thread. If you have real questions and can be polite, I will attempt to answer for anything that I have direct knowledge or control over (i.e. ABPM or other committees I serve on). If I don't know the answer, or if I'm not the best person to answer, I will email the appropriate leader and post their reply. There will be no disrespect in this thread. So you want to consider a fellowship?
Fellowships aren’t for everyone and you shouldn’t need one to be competent in normal podiatric medicine and surgery. But some individuals are driven to achieve levels beyond standard competence and strive to make the profession a better place. I did a fellowship with Prof. David Armstrong 2006-2007 at the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Diabetic Limb Salvage and Research. I did it to be mentored by Dr. Armstrong and gain experience in academics and research. I can honestly say that... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Endocrinology starting salary
Hello everyone, I am a PGY-1 and thinking about choosing either Endocrinology or Hem-Onc as an subspecialty. I know those are very different subspecialties but I was wondering about the salary part. I am not trying the compare those two in regards of salary, just was wondering approximately how much does Endocrinologist make Medscape salary report does not seem that reliable, so If anyone is an endocrinologist here or a fellow, if you could write approximate salary in a non-academic setting... Women's Health Track / Endocrinology Qs.
I was doing some research and came across the Women's Health Track. I am currently interested in IM and was wondering, when applying to residency programs, would I have to apply to programs that specificaly offer this track since I am interested in pursuing it? At the moment I am very drawn to Endocrinology and would love to specialize and focus on Women's Health. Also anyone that has completed this track please let me know what your experience was like and if you are an Endocrinologist I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Applied dentistry, rejected and referred to podiatry (interview this Friday)
Hey everybody. So I applied to dental schools this cycle and things are not going so great (3 rejections, 2 waitlist before interview). I was rejected from MWZ and referred to applied to other health programs (podiatry, pharmacy, biomed masters..etc). I transferred my application to podiatry as I was interested in it seeing as I come from a family of diabetics with nasty feet. I did some research and feel like it would be a great career if I don't get into dental school this year. I did not... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

LECOM is here
I attended the APMA BOT meeting in Bethesda today. During the public session the CPME disclosed that it has granted candidacy status to LECOM at its meeting last weekend. But before everyone rags on “why would CPME do this?”, please understand that CPME can only consider its standards and if a new school applicant meets its published standards, the CPME must grant it accreditation.
