Happy Doctors Day!
Happy National Doctors Day to all of you, even the self-loathing ones who don't feel like real doctors ... March 30 was chosen as National Doctors Day because it is the anniversary of the first time general anesthesia was used in surgery, March 30, 1842. Are diabetics immunocompromised in your practice?
Had some pushback last night from a hospitalist. Been out 4 years and never heard this argument before. 50's male with HTN, IDDM. Came in febrile to 102, obviously tacky. WBC 16k, lactic 2.5. Viral panel neg. Pneumonia on CT. Did all the sepsis stuff and covered with abx. The hospitalist argues with me and says they are stable and can be sent home and when I said they are immunocompromised with DM he said "almost everyone is diabetic so what" Threw me for a loop. I would never consider... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

We must do better
Podiatry compensation is laughable. We go through 4 years of post graduate education to then do 3 years of residency… FOR WHAT? To make the same or less then a PA with only 2 years of post graduate education. This is not to overlook the value of PA/NP. It’s a needed and great profession. However until we start to stand up for ourselves and get some lobbyist (like the nursing community has) our value will never go up. Okay we are replaceable? Let ID handle the Diabetic foot ulcer, let... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Botox for neuropathic pain
Has anyone here successfully used Botox (subcutaneous) for neuropathic pain (e.g. diabetic neuropathy). The Europeans have been using for some time and there are numerous good studies https://www.thelancet.com/journals/laneur/article/PIIS1474-4422%2816%2900017-X/fulltext I don't think Botox is approved here for this indication but one could do off-label, cash pay? Thoughts? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ethical Dilemma in Billing
I have an ethical dilemma that I need help with. I am an Endocrinologist, who lives in a neighboring state to my sister and mother. I am DPoA for medical affairs for my 90 year old mother with moderate Alzheimer’s Disease. My sister, who my mother lives with, is DPoA for finances and pays the bills. My mother has both Medicare part A and B and Federal Blue Cross Insurance. She fell, fracturing her pelvis through the right acetabulum (and ilium), which was repaired surgically. She is... Endo billing
Hey all, Question for those of you who are endocrinologists. Spouse is currently finishing up his stay at LTACH after ICU admission Diabetic, normally was very well managed Anyhow, primary doctor consulted pretty much everyone including Endocrine. Endocrine doctor saw him 1-2 times and then reviews his chart, and bills for encounters without seeing him. Says he sees him but doesn't. Is this legit? Do Endocrine docs bill without seeing patients/is that allowed? Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

MS3 need advice choosing: IM vs. psych
Hi, I'm applying for residency this year and struggling to choose a specialty - psych vs. IM. If I do IM, I'll likely pursue endocrinology since I enjoy working in clinic and don't love procedures. Here are what I see as the pros/cons - I appreciate any input! Psych pros: -ability to run my own practice/work outside of a hospital setting -I'm really interested in psychotherapy, and I enjoyed reading my psychiatry textbook -I hate working nights, and psych offers opportunity for a regular... CRIP Review 2024
Just leaving CRIP in Dallas and I wanted to first say how impressed I was with the quality of students interviewing. Most students were well-prepared to answer academic questions and work-up a case presentation. This is truly a testament to their education and training in podiatry school. Also, I'm happy to see many students who identify limb salvage as a field of interest. The opportunity most students have for improvement is on their interview style. Here are some pointers while they are... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Lobster Podiatry Explained
I was writing a lengthy reply to the fellowship thread which got locked before it got posted. Thanks mods! I don’t know what LCR means…or TFP or lobster for that matter. If anyone wants to fill me in…. Click to expand... If you don't understand these then I doubt you've read 2 years worth of posts as you claim. LCR refers to Lee C Rogers. Aka diabeticfootdoctor. Outgoing prez of ABPM, one-time candidate for US congress, Feli's arch nemesis. He holds many opinions with which we strenuously... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
