Cornell vs. UCI
Hi everyone! I'm trying to decide between my top two options and I'm really torn (basically 50/50) between the two. Background: family/friends are all in CA, went to undergrad in CA and I would like to return to CA for residency...at the moment interested in pursuing ophthalmology - it could definitely change over the next few years (also interested in endocrinology) but would like to keep any opportunities open to give me the best chance of applying for competitive specialities. I know... Cornell vs. UCI (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ideally my sugars will be stable the day of, they usually are, but should I be applying for medical accommodations in the event my sugar drops/spikes during the exam? What's the best way of navigating the MCAT as a type 1 diabetic? Thanks (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Anyone worked for a primary care clinic? Experiences?
Hi all, I am considering picking up a moonlighting gig for a primary care clinic. The clinic is run by an IM doc and sees typical primary care stuff (annual physicals, diabetes and HTN management, referrals to specialists, maybe some urgent care stuff, etc) I have no primary care experience and haven't ever worked in an outpatient clinic (ABEM boarded and have only worked in EDs) Has any EM-trained physicians here tried this? Is it too much of a malpractice risk practicing primary care if... Anyone worked for a primary care clinic? Experiences? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Why does everyone lose their minds over FM having a wide scope of practice, but lets midlevels do literally anything?
Not intended to be a midlevel thread. I'm genuinely curious why people in medicine, especially in FM, think that we should have some sort of narrow scope of practice. Anything with high acuity? Nope. Managing less common diagnoses? Nope. (have to refer it out, so they're see by the endocrinology PA!) Ob? Nope, we aren't qualified. Scopes? Nah... but totally okay if we let "GI NPs" do it. C-sections? No. But midlevels in UK can train to do "basic surgeries." Hospitalist? No, we aren't... vision loss after hyperbaric oxygen therapy
Hi, I'm hoping I can get some direction on where to look for answers. My friend who is a type 1 diabetic had hyperbaric oxygen therapy to treat a foot wound a year ago. She completed the treatment in January 2019 and had significant decrease in her vision. She had Lasix years ago and now her vision is down to -4. Her wound doctor and eye doctor haven't been able to answer if her vision is now going to stay this way or if it will improve. Searching for articles hasn't been super helpful. They... vision loss after hyperbaric oxygen therapy (Source: Student Doctor Network)

candida fungal infection with stimulator
Had a weird case a couple of weeks ago. My partner, who is an outstanding technical surgeon for implants (one of the best I have seen) had a stim follow up while he was on vacation. The wounds were dehiscing and the incisions looked odd (my partner has had only two infections over a 25 year career, so he is pretty damn good). I took her to the OR and removed the stim, packing the incisions open. Initial cultures were negative, but eventually grew candida. This patient was a diabetic with a... candida fungal infection with stimulator (Source: Student Doctor Network)
