Safety and efficacy of multiple-dose versus single-dose MIBG therapy in patients with refractory pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma: a single-center retrospective analysis
ConclusionIn I-131 MIBG therapy for PPGLs, multiple administrations significantly increased only Grade 1 or 2 lymphopenia and leukopenia compared to single administration. (Source: Annals of Nuclear Medicine)

County Mammogram Uptake can be Predicted from Social Determinants of Health, but Patterns Do Not Hold for Individual Patients
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates that social determinants in the SVI can explain much of the variance in county breast cancer screening rates. However, these same patterns fail to discriminate which patients will have timely follow through of a mammogram screening test. This study also concludes that the core association between increased screening and decreased age adjusted mortality does not hold in high proportion minority areas.OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to describe patterns in social determinants of health and their association with female breast cancer screening uptake, age adjusted breast cancer mo...

Primary Technology Enhanced Care Home HbA1c Testing (PTEC HAT) programme: a feasibility pilot study in Singapore
CONCLUSION: Our findings support home HbA1c testing by patients coupled with telemonitoring and teleconsultations. Following are practical recommendations for the implementation scaling phase: offering PTEC HAT Programme to suitable patients who are self-motivated and have adequate digital literacy, provision of adequate educational and training support, sending reminders and exploring enabling manual submission of HbA1c readings considering Bluetooth-related challenges.PMID:38654201 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-024-02373-w (Source: Primary Care)

Pediatric foot fractures on radiographs: distribution and predictors of surgery
ConclusionPediatric foot fracture patterns differed based on age and regional skeletal maturation. Physeal involvement, multiple fractures, fracture displacement, and articular involvement were independent predictors of surgery in our study group. (Source: Emergency Radiology)

Incidence and outcomes of emergency department patients requiring emergency general surgery: a 5-year retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: Emergency department visits resulting in emergency general surgery are frequent, but their incidence decreases with patient age. Mortality, ICU admission and dependence at discharge following emergency general surgery are more frequent in older patients. Taking into account the increased risk for older patients, a shared process is appropriate for making more informed decisions about their options for care.PMID:38642364 | DOI:10.57187/s.3729 (Source: Swiss Medical Weekly)

Towards fair and clinically relevant polygenic predictions
Trends Genet. 2024 Apr 19:S0168-9525(24)00076-3. doi: 10.1016/j.tig.2024.04.002. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLennon et al. recently proposed a clinical polygenic score (PGS) pipeline as part of the Electronic Medical Records and Genomics (eMERGE) network initiative. In this spotlight article we discuss the broader context for the use of PGS in preventive medicine and highlight key limitations and challenges facing their inclusion in prediction models.PMID:38643035 | DOI:10.1016/j.tig.2024.04.002 (Source: Trends in Genetics : TIG)
