Alteration of serum bile acid profiles of HBV-related hepatocellular carcinoma identified by LC –MS/MS
ConclusionPatients with HCC had significantly lower levels of total bile acid, but higher levels of secondary bile acids (DCA, LCA, and GLCA). The levels of primary bile acid (TCDCA) were closely related to tumor size and stage, which indicated that the bile acids were involved in the HCC procession and had important clinical application values. Incidence and Risk Factors for ICU-Associated Delirium in the Alert Geriatric Trauma Population
This study analyzed the overall incidence of delirium, comorbid conditions, injury patterns, and pharmacological risk factors for the development of delirium in an alert, geriatric trauma population.METHODS: IRB-approved, prospective, consecutive cohort series at two Southeastern Level 1 trauma centers from June 11 to August 15, 2023. Delirium was assessed using the Confusion Assessment Method (CAM) score. Comorbidities and medications were detailed from electronic medical records. Inclusion criteria: age ≥55, GCS ≥14, and ICU admission for trauma. Patients on a ventilator were excluded. Data was analyzed using SPSS ve...

Real-World Effectiveness of High-Dose Tafamidis on Neurologic Disease Progression in Mixed-Phenotype Variant Transthyretin Amyloid Cardiomyopathy
ConclusionThis is the first real-world study to demonstrate the potential value of high-dose tafamidis for delaying neurologic disease progression in patients with mixed-phenotype ATTRv-CM. The findings underscore the importance of multidisciplinary assessment for patients with ATTR amyloidosis.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov: NCT05139680. (Source: Cardiology and Therapy)

Newborn Hearing Screening Results for Infants With Prenatal Opioid Exposure in Southern Appalachia
CONCLUSIONS: Referral rates of infants with POE were similar to those of infants with NOE. Nevertheless, the withdrawal symptomology of infants with POE introduces physiological noise reflected as artifact on ABR, which can affect efficiency of newborn hearing screenings.PMID:38517271 | DOI:10.1044/2024_JSLHR-23-00492 (Source: Journal of speech, language, and hearing research : JSLHR)

Association between different regional lymph node metastases of papillary thyroid carcinoma in adolescents and young adults
Oncol Lett. 2024 Mar 11;27(5):204. doi: 10.3892/ol.2024.14337. eCollection 2024 May.ABSTRACTAdolescents and young adults (AYA) describe the demographic aged between 15-39 years diagnosed with cancer. This group is particularly at risk of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) with a greater severity compared with other ages. Through comparative design, the present study aimed to quantify central lymph node metastasis (CLNM) risk in AYAs. A total of 463 AYA patients with PTC and 489 patients >39 years old with PTC from Ningbo Medical Center Lihuili Hospital (Ningbo, China) were enrolled. Details such as demographic data, seru...
